My truck has been missing a radio since I picked it up, and its getting old. What kind of radio should I pick up so that I don't have to cut up the dash. I just need basic tunes, no contest winning base boxes. Where should I mount the speakers without cutting into the doors?

you can put your spkrs in boxes under or behind the seat, rear cab corners, or you can buy the kick panel spkr frames... I would also suggest putting some tweeters in the corners of the dash, between the windshield and the dashpad, makes a huge difference.

Roddoors sells some really nice covers that go over the entire A post. You can order them with or without tweeters. Price is real good too. A little under $40.00 if I remember right. They are ABS plastic. You can dye them or cover them with fabric. I think you can find roddoors by doing a google search.

Any hints or tricks about accessing the radio? I know that this is typically a cinch, but I am finding that my 71 LWB w/AC has very limited wiggle room.

I've removed the glove box and ash tray. I'm thinking that this is the way it needs to come out (to the right). Is this how most people get in there?

How do the Kick-Panel speakers sound? I've got some boxes in front of the seat (held secure with Bungee cords) and I've been thinking about the Kick-Panel ones.

I still have my tank behind the seat and have nixed the ideas of having in-door or kick panel speakers. Has anyone found a way to mount speakers in the B-pillars or built a center console for speakers?? If you have and have pics of them, I sure would like to see them.

I'm in the ( slow ) process of building a console for my 72 Have some blazer buckets in it 1\2 inch plywood PLan on bass speaker in bottom fromt and small ones in the back Hope to get back to it in a couple of days WIll try to get a pic or two for you .

I built a center console for Jenna's 71, But being on how she likes to sit next to me when we are cruzing So I took it out and cut the doors 4 6x9's. I put the radio in the glove box. And having sirius satilite radio It pritty much stays on one channel ! I had two 5" speakers in the console between the seats, and 2 cup holders !:p Sorry I never took pics of it eather !

I have 5 shaft mount Pioneer, 2 shaft mount toshibas, and one shaft mount coustic deck, they all have preouts and some of them have aux in's for plugging in a cd player etc.. great alternative for cutting your dash, while still having a good tuner, plugging in an amp or plugging in a portable cd player, mp3 player etc... btw they all have digital tuners too, email me Hooter_5@hotmail.com, if anyone is interested

Don't know if anyone is interested. Here is what I built for rear speaker holders. I welded an upper and lower brace to the cab before I shot the paint. Then I made a template out of cardboard and cut them out of 1/4" plywood. I covered them with 1/8" closed cell foam and carpeting with no backing. Glued the foam and carpet on with 3M spray glue. I covered the entire floor, backwall , firewall and underdash with dynamat. I have never used the stuff but heard good things about it. Just got the dynamat extreme to cover under the door panels. Figured it would hold up better since it has a foil backing. Does anyone out there have an opinion on the Dynamat?? I would love to know if you noticed a difference after you installed it.

I don't really notice any difference (mostly because I don't drive her truck very often), but being how there's nothing in your truck to start with it'll probably have a marked improvement. I do notice the difference between her truck and my truck (BIG difference!)

Its a Kenwood KRC 3006
It has the direct wire hookup to the 10 disc changer. Not the fm cheezy hookup. Works great!

any of you guy's that are interested....brothers has a pretty good deal going on now on the custom autosound under seat speaker system......$129 p/pr. the mounting depth is only 2 7/8" tall x 11"lng. x 8"wide...basically the same dimensions as a copy of hot rod,or my fav. rag "classic trucks"!!
