Wiring help

I bought this truck last weekend and been tinkering with it. I have no power to heater, wipers, gauge cluster, turn signals. It has after market switch for coil. The only thing in gauge cluster that works is speedo. All the fuses are good is it something simple or say buy new wiring kit?

Depending on how much abuse the original wiring has taken- as in burned up wiring from the non-fused ammeter or a previous owner that was an amateur sound system installer that destroyed the under dash wiring, which now looks like a bowl of colored spaghetti or other poorly done "repairs", the factory wiring in these trucks is surprisingly durable. It's possible to repair what's there if there's anything left (see above) and have a decent electrical system.

If the wireing doesn't look cobbled, get a test light & start tracing. You may have a burned out fuseable link. Check the back of the ign. switch. They have a tendency to burn out wires in the connector. There is no use putting in a new harness if there is a simple fix.

I second the recommendation that you try to fix the original before buying a generic replacement. Installing an entire new harness isn't for the faint of heart.

Definitely buy a wiring diagram for the exact year of truck -- they sell 11x17 versions laminated in plastic that are perfect for using while you work.

With only a dozen or so circuits in the entire truck, it's pretty easy to track down any issues. My electrics were all failed when I bought my 'burb. Most of the problems turned out to be corrosion in connectors or ground wires.

I would start with one thing at a time. trying to pin point the problem.

If they wired the ignition off a stray hot and just to the coil none of the stuff you listed will work. I would look at what they did with the switch that is in it and start from there. While you are looking around under the dash its a good time to evaluate the condition of the harness and get rid of any wires that dont go anywhere.

thanks, yes the switch is gone and the new coil wire id straight from the battery. where do you buy the 11x17 versions laminated copies at?
