Rear axel adjustment
I am putting the bed back on my ’67 step side. When I pulled the old bed off I notice scuff marks on the diver side bedside wheel well. There is less than a half inch clearance on the driver side and several inches on the passenger side. Do the rear trailing arms have locating pins at the axel like leaf springs do? Or can I simply loosen the u-bolts and slide the axel over about an inch to get equal spacing for the rear tires in the wheel wells? I have an adjustable trac bar.

Adjust your track bar, you wont get an inch of movement out of the ubolts.

Okay I have the curved trac bar that only has an adjuster at the frame end. So I have to drop that end to adjust it. I screwed it in to where I think it would work but how do I move the axel assembly to get it to line up with the bolt hole again? It is not like the rear end will easily move. This is all new to me, every other adjustable bar I have used has a right hand and left hand adjuster, very easy to adjust.

Is this truck lowered?
If it is, you may need an aftermarket track bar to get the rear axle centered in the truck. Also check trailing are front bushes haven't collapsed. |

I used a ratchet strap/tie down strap too pull the axle over and realign the holes.
Be sure too take a measurement from off your frame too a point on the back of your wheels somewhere too be sure it's not the bed itself that shifted too far too one side.

DOH!! Of course a ratchet strap, where is my brain, thanks. It is the axle that is off for sure. I moved the bed around to get the tire spacing right that puts the bedsides off in relation to the frame. I will align it again after I get the axel centered.

Victory is mine! I used the ratchet strap, worked great. Still not a fan of the one side trac bar adjuster but I eventually got it perfect. Thanks everyone.

I had put a adjustable bar on my first 67 when I lowered it and for some silly reason a few days later as I was buttoning it up I noticed the uneven tire spacing too the frame rails. I started thinking maybe the frame was bent. I was pretty new and Puter dumb but I like too do a lot of reading up before tackling a problem so I had the kid Google our problem and it brought us here and I asked the same question as my first post and been here ever since. For one reason or another the rear in that truck was tough too get it too shift over. And my brain wasn't working either I paid no attention too the adjustable bar I had just installed a few days before hand. I have a lot of these moments.
