They have another one. Doubt you will find beefier bumpers, I had one and it was a work of art. All their stuff is.

Re: Winch Bumper for 1990 Suburban
yep..I agree...any of those store bought bumpers are pricey...I built the one for my blazer..I went to jms and bought a sheet of 3/16" plate..I had them bend one side at 90 deg and then i laid out how I wanted it and cut the pieces out...lot of welding later had a fairly nice bumper..

Re: Winch Bumper for 1990 Suburban
All the pics help a lot ,my buddy can build one from a pic . I cant hardly see paying a third the price of the truck for a bumper ,LOL. But then again , Im cheap ,plus I still need to buy the winch for it.

Re: Winch Bumper for 1990 Suburban
haha ...I wouldn't call you cheap...just realistic. ..cost is why I built my own as well..I know some of those bumpers have a lot of fab work in them and nothing wrong with getting paid for your work either..

Re: Winch Bumper for 1990 Suburban
when you get ready to shop for a winch check out the rough country winch...a local 4x4 shop has sold a bunch of em...I looked it over and it appears to be well made...he told me he's sold over 300 of them and only had 2 returned...with the bad luck I've had with the big name high dollar winches I'm going to try one next time I need one..

I'm getting a move bumper for my next truck build. It's hard to build one for the under $500 price tag you can get it to your door for.

Re: Winch Bumper for 1990 Suburban
ever considered getting a front hitch with a receiver type winch or are you after the look too? i looked around for a winch bumper but decided on the hitch style as you can move it front to back or even take it out to another struck truck to use.
went back to rescue this bronco one day and got stuck myself. came back the next morning and just carried the winch back there with some long jumper cables and he pulled himself out backwards |

Re: Winch Bumper for 1990 Suburban
I have cheaped out and decided to have a Receiver put in behind the front bumper and just cut the existing bumper square hole for the fabricated winch plate to go on. We are going to make it permanent though.

Re: Winch Bumper for 1990 Suburban
All these angular fabricated bumpers are bice work and pieces of art. But that plate steel will still bend or twist given the right off road action. Then they'll look crappy and be hard to fix. For my money I keep them simple and use either c-channel or tube stock. Can't beat tube for strength in all directions. I like the 2x4 and 2x6. Just hang the center where it needs to be for the winch and angle the ends back to the body. Bend diamond plate for the top. I cut the ends to be in line with the sides of the truck and weld plate to close it up. I like 4" round tube as well. Just harder to work with. I think that's what my '72 will get when a winch goes on

Re: Winch Bumper for 1990 Suburban
I smacked a big ol doe at 75mph last winter and it did 0 to my bumper. It hit on the LH side and not in the center. Luckily, her head or whatever only put a crease in my grill shell, my inner has a broken tab now, but no other damage. I have a funny feeling my frame horns would bend before my bumper.
The poo all under, and down the side of the truck was the worst part of it......
