1949 frame swap

Anyone ever swapped a 1948 thru 1954 Chevy 2 ton cab and front sheet metal onto a 67-72 Chevrolet 1 ton dually frame. maybe have suggestions and pictures. My main concern is the wide front track. Will make the wheels stick outside the fenders and look weird. I need a 1 ton dually to pull my horse trailer and 18 car trailer. THANKS !

"18 car trailer"???...your gonna need more than a dually to pull that..
as for a late model dually under a 2 ton AD cab its been done...but you might be better off with a TF or early to mid 60s big truck..

Sorry 18-foot one car hauler trailer. I guess you have seen a car hauler trailer that can haul 18 cars.

4545 speed is right, that 51 in houston is miles ahead of starting one yourself.

I'm in the middle of a similar project now. Swapping a '51 1 ton dually to the chassis of a 82 GMC 1 ton dually, for the purpose of having a nice tow rig.
I even have a '50 2 ton as well, which as you know, is slightly wider across the front fenders.

My measurements show that it should line up pretty well, and result in a scenario where the wheels WONT stick out beyond the fenders, especially if using the 2 ton body.

My advice is get your measurement from the 67-72 chassis you want to use, (maybe outside of front tire to outside of other front tire) and see how that lines up with the fender width of the two ton truck, which is 74 7/8" front outside of front fender to outside of front fender.

Ad me to this group, I have a 51 4000 series truck and a 77 1 ton dualie chassis that I hauled home after a guy gave it to me and loaded it minus the rear axle.

I'm still deciding if I want to put the one ton suspension on the 1-1/2 ton frame or swap the cab over to the other frame so I am interested. I have the title to the 77 frame and the 51 so paperwork isn't an issue. It's about the same amount of work either way.

Wow thanks, guys. For a while there I thought I was the only one taking on a swap like this. Seems like most are going with the stock original frame that the truck came with. Or going to a s-10 . I have the original frame but its stiff and ruff not that a 70 dually is an easy ride. But better steering, suspension, and better brakes/later model make for a better truck. A S-10 swap would be great for a driver, but not for a combination work/hauler/ tow truck.

I keep looking at some kind of swap like this also. I have a 2000 dodge diesel that only has 180K miles to use as a donor. It is great shape but wife will not ride in it so I might as well make her REALLY HATE it. I just don't want that 6 banger diesel setting next to me. Kinda wish I had a V8.

It should work for you pretty well. 2 ton is a little bigger than the 3100s and i just put the front suspension from a c10 into my 50. For me I need to change the wheels and tires. I'm gonna get factory looking wheels that are thinner. Wheels will suck in some and it'll have the right look. The stance now is a little tall but should look good on your 2 ton. I'm not as worried for mine, no car hauler here. If I ever get one of the bigger versions like yours, I'd still go for the c10 swap route.

Thanks ! But I was talking about ideas on using a one ton dually frame. It's a lot different than a c_10. even the track. And even I could adopt or install a 1/2 t c10 suspension. The wheels will quickly give it away. Troopers here in Texas will pull you over or check you out at weighing stations if they think you're overloaded. Never had it done. but seen it happen a lot. A trooper putting on coveralls and crawling under trucks. It will not fly. But It will give you a heavy ticket. And I happen to live in the capital, so Troopers seem like there on every block waiting for you to mess up. Yep the great state of Texas.
