Re: Pair Of Factory 71/72 C/10 Wheels

These are favored for the front when combined with drop spindles and either stock or wider Wheel Vintiques OEM style wheels. I do have another pair I listed in the 60-66 parts board if someone wants a full set. BUT... these are two different wheels, although same width and same backspace. This second set came off an '80s truck. I have seen both design wheels on those. Don't know the rhyme or reason on it, but the difference is barely detectable. In fact, I bet no one ever noticed there are two types of stock wheels.

I know about Fastenal having good rates for heavier stuff but have yet to deal with them. It is as easy an option for me as any other parcel delivery services. Do you want a quote?

Re: Pair Of Factory 71/72 C/10 Wheels

Fastenal seems to have become comparable to FedEx. They gave me an estimate of $50@ while FedEx gave a quote (not estimate) of $53.19@. So shipping doubles the price. I'd be willing to pay the few dollars more to have a package dropped at my door.

Re: Pair Of Factory 71/72 C/10 Wheels

Yeah, it's pretty crazy when it comes to costing the general public no less than $200 to send a set of wheels. Places like Summit and Jegs can offer free shipping because they get charged so little, probably no more than 10 bucks a wheel. The world has become so all about numbers it leaves the individual bearing the burden while the mega corp gets a break.

Are you referring to the somewhat concave nature of the face of the earlier style rims and the somewhat convex face of the later rims?

Re: Pair Of Factory 71/72 C/10 Wheels

If so, I noticed it several years ago when I started getting interested in going in the "stockish" direction with my truck. Unfortunately I had already picked up 4 of the later style. I'd like to find a nice set of 5 of the earlier style.

Re: Pair Of Factory 71/72 C/10 Wheels

From my experience, the more convex ones are original and the concave ones are later. The guy I bought the concave ones from said they came off an '80s truck. They may have been changed. But I did see a N.O.S. GM full-size police wheel this week that has the same concave profile. It was from this era, but wrong lug pattern

Re: Pair Of Factory 71/72 C/10 Wheels

Hey special-K, here are some pics to illustrate what I was talking about.

Here are wheels that I consider concaved. It's tough to find pics that illustrate the caved in area around the "nub ring" and I don't personally have any of this style of wheel to photograph so these are "found" photos. I did not circle the nubs. Also, notice that the "spokes," the areas between the little windows. On the concaved wheels they protrude above the inner lip of the wheel and on the convex wheel the sit beneath the inner edge.

Here is what my "convex" wheels look like. They are from an '81 Chevy pickup.

Sorry, if this is off topic of your "for sale" thread but you mentioned the part about two different stock wheels and I'm always trying to learn. If you would like I can continue this in a new thread.

Re: Pair Of Factory 71/72 C/10 Wheels

Oh, btw, my rims being stamped ‘81 is why I thought the convex rims were the “later” version of these wheels. If the 71-72 were convex too then I just need to find a fifth to use as a spare.

Re: Pair Of Factory 71/72 C/10 Wheels

Honestly, I could have it all backwards. But I never noticed in all my years the concave centers on any truck wheels till last years when someone gave me a wheel. I scrapped it because the bead was rusted bad on one side. I wondered what it actually came from until I got the pair I have listed in 60-66, and that gy said they came off an '80s truck. He could be wrong...or I mean they may not have been original to the truck. I'll look for dates. I do know the 6-lug 4wd wheels from the '80s are convex and a N.O.S. 15" police car wheel I saw (4 3/4" pattern) that was marked as being 69-72 was concave.

Not sure why the difference in center contour since they are both disc brake and same offset. On the convex, which I prefer, the center contacts the rim about 3/8" deeper and the concave look about flush. This would make the convex deeper except for the other difference in the center area where the wheel stud holes are. On the convex that is deeper than the concave. I just posted comparison pictures in your thread that I took to show the differences

Re: Pair Of Factory 71/72 C/10 Wheels

Had to chime in on this. The wheels I have on my 73 are mixed. Concave and convex wheels. I’ve always wondered if difference came with trucks and maybe GM big car steel wheels since they are 5x5 as well

I wondered that, too. I have seen old 5 on 5 15" x 8s for drum brake as well. Definitely not for GM trucks.

Ok Dave, I need to cut out right now, just did a quic check before heading out. I'll post what I come up with this evening.

Re: Pair Of Factory 71/72 C/10 Wheels

Sorry about the delay. I did a long hard day, got home late yesterday. Not as hard but long today, too. Anyway, I checked and it looks like I'm not charging enough for these wheels. I mean, it costs more to ship two wheels than what I'm asking. Try $130.42 on for size. That was individual boxes. I just checked what it would do to bind boxes together, ship as one pkg. That got it to $100

No problem. I'm glad you found some. Now that I know that shipping gotten to be so expense I'll just have to figure steel wheels are a local type of thing to sell. I might just keep hanging on to them

SOLD!
