not a clue...unless I'm misinformed 1/2 & 3/4 ton axles are the same..only the hub ends are different. .8 lug vs 6 lug

some had thicker wall tube dia . otherwise yes 1/2 and 3/4 ton use same housing and inner "C" units and knuckles . just brakes and # of lug studs .

that is a early run axle tho with flat top pass side knuckle and upper tie rod style . and the rim/tire combo looks like 37" g/y h1 hummer tires on aluminum rims . this leads me to guess 16.5 8 lug rims . so prob a 3/4 ton 8 lug axle as not many aluminum rims made for 16.5 tires in 5-6 lug .

unless for some crazy chance you can find and read the dana B.O.M # stamped in the axle tube . . . .

Actually, it's very possible that it is a 1970 diff being an open knuckle with drum. 68 was still closed knuckle

On the other side of the diff where it says 44 there are some numbers/letters. 5,6 and 8 I think. I though it was for literally for 5,6 or 8 lug. But heard somewhere that it's the tube thickness, dunno what they translate to.

A picture of the hub sticking out the wheel can tell you also.A dana 60 has huge hubs vs what a dana 44/gm 10bolt used.

and our trucks dana 60 stuff was never ball joint and 4 u-bolts . so its not a 60 front . since 60 was king pins and 2 bolts and 3 u-bolts.

and good call on the open knuckle stuff i forgot that .

When I looked at the photo the backing plate didn't look good to me. I don't think it's the one year open knuckle, drum. Just because the backing plate looks funky, but then again the pic is a bit fuzzy. Here's a pic of the exact same front left. Open knuckle drum 44. It's an HD, but who cares, 8 lug 1/2" tube or whatever.

I couldn't give the axle away when I swapped. I pulled the ring and pinion and took the rest to scrap.

Anyhow, see the backing plate fits neat into the drum.
