Okay, I'm hosed because of this f%$^n McGard crap
I need to remove my wheels but lost the McGard socket, this really P's me off, my caliper is leaking and now I can't drive.
Who has had the same situation and what did you do? I don't have the product sheet with the code for the McGard lugs so can't order a new tool, I'm about to break out the grinder. |

There are only like 3 diff kinds of locks...no matter what the manuf wants to tell you. Just go up to a tire shop and tell them. They might let you use theirs. They all have universals that will work

Find a socket that will fit over the outside edge of the lock 7/8 I think. If you have an impact spin the socket on the lock for a second to scuff up the chrome then hit it with a hammer. Use an extension on the socket and don't smack your wheel. You should be able to get enough grip to get the thing off. This should work used the technique many times back when I used to mount tires for a living. Good luck

If all else fails you can grind on two sides and grip it with some channel locks or something. Just dont grind too far and damage the stud. I have seen this done before with ease.

Matco sells a socket that goes over the head of the lock lugs in reverse that threads itself on then you back it off like normal. It's like $35 but it may be worth it.

best way is to do like someone already said. take another socket that is just a little bit smaller than the diameter of the locking lug and hammer it on. then back it off like normal. even with the fancy smancy stuff we have thats what we usualy to because it easier

you could also tack weld a nut to the locking lug and remove it that way too.

Sears also has a set of nut removers that will work I used a dremel on mine very time consumeing and tricky though.
