How do I?????? Step Bed Question??????
How do I take apart a step bed? I know that the front panel unbolts, as do the steps and fenders. I read here somewhere that to take the bed sides off, there are some welds. How do I go about doing this???? Thanks, Don.

I never got to take my step bed apart; CPNE just came and took the whole damn thing, but if it's anything like my fleetside, which I assume it is, the fenders unbolt from the bedsides, the front panel unbolts from the bedsides, then on the very rear sill of the bed, each bedside will have about a 1" bead welded to keep everything in place.
Confirmation is needed though. |

If there are any factory welds, they will be where the bedside buts up against the end cross sill. This is where they are on a fleet bed. I'm not sure if the stepsides had any welds at all.

Correct..........rear cross sills to the bedsides. The rest will all unbolt. I have seen some that have hardly any weld there if any. Grinder will take care of them.

Mudder is right, just a small weld on each side of the rear sill. On mine one side broke away before I realized it was even welded. the other side was almost as easy to get apart.

Can the wood be replaced without taking the whole bed apart?

Thanks Guys, I wasn't sure if the steps had the welds too, but it sounds real easy to take apart so one person can move the bed around and prepare for paint. Thanks again, Don.
