Happiness is a roomy garage!
I wish I had a before and after pic...but honestly, I was so embarrassed over how my garage used to look, I didn't want anyone to see. Yesterday my dad and his neighbor came over and we got the hood back on. Once that happened, I spent five hours organizing my garage. At least, the garage in front of the truck.
I cleared up a ton of space (by my standards), put tools into drawers and cabinets, hung wrench and socket sets onto the peg board, threw out a lot of trash....you can even see the floor now. I was just out there putting the radiator brackets back on, figuring out my new radiator hoses, and pouring the flushed out anti freeze into jugs for recycling. That would have been a dangerous job to even attempt with the garage like it was (junked up). I had to cut a board and when done, I vacuumed up the sawdust. I wouldn't have even bothered to do that the day before yesterday. *Unfortunately the hood isn't completely straight but it's on, and good enough until next spring. |

Re: Happiness is a roomy garage!
I'm with you. My wife helped me partially organize my garage last week so I could get started on my Blazer.

Re: Happiness is a roomy garage!
I don't have a garage, so happiness would be having one to clean. I have a little barn that when I built it I thought I'd tuck a couple cars or trucks in. Just big enough. But my needs soon showed that space was needed just for tools, Harley, bicycles, work bench, supplies, and parts. I have a slab in front where I can work on trucks and roll my woodworking tools out to set up shop.
A couple times a year I'll go out to do something and find myself doing a total clean out and reorganize. This includes all around the driveway, too. Usually once winter has passed, from setting stuff off the truck or stuffing in under shelter. Tools always get wiped down and put back after each use. My next place will have more ground. I've gone without far too long. I want a parking garage for the nice stuff, a shop with carport in front (both with attics), and a machine shed for stashing everything else undercover. I'll probably close in a section for stuff I want kept totally dry. I have plenty of space to work on my trucks since they are outside. Everything gets put away for the same reason. I need to at least get one of those metal carports for my '72. Been outside too long, and just a roof over it when doing work would be a huge bonus.

Clean garage?
What's that? I have to warn people who go into mine to beware of falling parts! No joke! There is no un-used flat surface! Mike. |

Re: Happiness is a roomy garage!
Have a nice, normal sized garage in our "new to us" home, but it is full of moving boxes and stuff that still needs to be unpacked. Once that is done, my almost finished '69 will be in there so I can get "agreed value" insurance on it.

tackling my garage this weekend. It's so bad you have to step carefully and walk sideways. It's been a long and busy summer

Re: Happiness is a roomy garage!
My shop is 34 x48 with a 16 ft leanto and it is full , I need another garage .I tried downsizing my collection but they keep following me home .And now that I am parting out trucks there is no space left. If I can sell my wife's Trans Am and get my buddy to come get his El Camino that would give me some space for a while.

Re: Happiness is a roomy garage!
Space would be great. You should see my 700 Sq. 3-car garage during this restoration. No choice but to remain creative and organized. I'd like 1/2 the house and 3 times the garage.

Re: Happiness is a roomy garage!
I have a ton of room now, and when I moved into this shop a few years ago, I made myself a promise to keep it organized.
I hate things sitting on the floor, and I pretty much have things on shelves. I like to be able to wash the floor out once in awhile. When I built this shop, I put lights on the walls so I wouldn't have those dark holes on the side of the vehicle next to the wall. Now happiness would be having a paint booth. I am lobbying for that. It sure is a lot of trouble having fun.

Re: Happiness is a roomy garage!
My garage is starting to get a little tight.
At least it keeps me from bringing more stuff home.

Re: Happiness is a roomy garage!
I'll try and take pics of mine today before I start cleaning it out. The Tahoe is going off to storage to make room for wife's Escape.

That sounds a little fishy to me.

Re: Happiness is a roomy garage!
I was very low on energy today. I only got 1/2 of garage cleaned out. I have to do the rest during the week. Next weekend I have to melt down 300 pounds of lead into ingots as well as go hunt ducks, geese and pheasants with a good friend

Re: Happiness is a roomy garage!
My shop is as big as my property, plenty of space, no clutter. But there's no roof!

Re: Happiness is a roomy garage!
Happiness is a overflowing garage. The trick is to have it overflow due to motorcycles, jetskis, cars and trucks instead of crap being where it ain't supposed to be.
