Factory Tach with HEI

Continuing the theme of HEI conversion from points.... I have a factory tach that works very well. I know how to wire to HEI dist (very simple) I am wondering if the tach will still read properly once I am converted or if I need some sort of inline filter that some of the manufacturers talk about?

Mine works fine with an MSD billet distributor.

Thumbs up Re: Factory Tach with HEI

Mine did to. No problems at all.

Make sure you cut the resister wire out of the coil wire also.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: Factory Tach with HEI

Mine reads high. On the dwell meter ( It has a tach) I get 800 at idle but the tach says 1200. At 2500 on the dwell meter tach reads 3800. Not sure if it is the HEI or the 50 year old tach. But that little 305 sure revs to 5 grand quick.

Re: Factory Tach with HEI

I'm looking to install new gauge cluster in my 72. Most of the manufacturers state that they will not work with HEI distributors. I thought it was just a wire from the dist to the tach?
