Should I cut the dash.
I recently acquired a 98% rust free California K10, Cheyenne with factory air, tach and four speed, with one factory repaint. This thing is original right down to the intact California emissions.
Now for my question. I have a period correct 8 track player that will not fit in the radio hole without cutting the dash. The dash won't have to be cut much, just maybe a 1/4 inch all around. Do you think it will hurt the value of the truck?

Re: Should I cut the dash.
Larry, I will make you better offer than Flashed. You keep the truck and I will take the eight track off your hands. As to your original question it's your truck if you want the 8 track than I say go for it.

Re: Should I cut the dash.
I would add a factory am/fm instead. That will increase the value of your truck and you don’t have to cut your dash.

Re: Should I cut the dash.
Yes, if you have a truck that is that original cutting the dash will hurt the value.

slot or trim the bezel of the 8 track to fit the opening.

Re: Should I cut the dash.
Trade for a period correct under-dash 8-track. Don't cut the dash.

Re: Should I cut the dash.
It's just an old truck, and how are you gonna play those Freddy Fender 8-tracks unless you cut the dash? It's a no-brainer for me....

Re: Should I cut the dash.
If you have to cut the dash, then in my opinion it wasn't designed/meant to be in the truck way back then and now. Its not like a period correct item that just bolts in or on. You cut that dash, and you have just committed yourself to that 8-track for all eternity.

I thought all the 8 tracks for these trucks were under dash anyways.

Re: Should I cut the dash.
Huh??? I can't believe you even asked that question. If you want to listen to your old 8-tracks, buy a correct AM/FM, convert the tapes to digital and send them to the radio via an FM transmitter. That's what I did with some of my old LPs. I use a Garmin 850 nav unit that has a built-in transmitter. It's not in stereo but it sounds period correct that way. I did the same with some CDs of old music.

Don't cut the dash. But do post a picture of the truck 😉

Re: Should I cut the dash.
Okay.. What an I missing ? Are you guys considering it trolling because he asked if it would hurt the value of the truck? The poster is an active board paying member and has been a member since 2008 with 2900 posts. I checked on the rules and I've attached the link about trolling. I ask because in the 14 years I've been on this site I got a hit one time because I posted a pic of a seat with its original cover and the replacement cover that I was going to get installed. Someone asked me if I would sell the original and I said yes and I was accused of trolling when I wasn't and what I found hard to take was the fact that there was no talking about it. I replied to this because there are lots of new members and it'll be good for them to see how the site is managed. I see the rule but no explanation of what constitutes trolling on the site.
IV. Pure trolling, either to upset someone or simply for your personal enjoyment, is strictly prohibited. If you're here to cause trouble, it will be a very short stay. Immediate BAN and you will be reported to your ISP.

I considered it a genuine question and I think most of the responses were genuine as well.
