'74 California emissions?

Here is the deal. Got a 74 4 WD 1/2 ton, 350-4v all original truck sitting in Reno, NV. The truck is mostly original with a slight performance upgrade on the engine rebuild many years ago. This is a one owner truck but not sure if it was a California or Nevada truck when purchased. If I want to title it in Orange County, CA will I have to worry about CA emissions standards on a truck that old. Did any emissions equipment exist in 74 for this truck? If so what was the equipment? At best I figure maybe an air pump, PCV, carb preheater and no cat converters. Thanks for your help.

Actually, a 74 is now smog exempt in CA.

I was under the impression that it the excemption limit is 30 years. See the link http://www.smogtips.com/need_inspection.html

Though, I've heard from several people that over 25 years is excempt. Any source that can confirm this limit? I'm very interested since I have a -77 and I do expect to have one or maybe two more smog checks before becoming excempt. With a 25 year exemption limit I might be done already......

If you regester your truck in Carson City Nv. the DMV doesn't require a smog check! In Reno you will have to pay for the smog certificate.

it was 25 then went to 30. i think this is a recent change and all the exempt 25's grandfarthered in. i could be wrong, but i have a 73 new yorker that i bought in 99 & never had to smog it.

Smog inspections are required for all vehicles except diesel powered vehicles, motorcycles, or vehicles with a year model 30 years old or older. Vehicles registered in areas subject to the biennial smog certification program are required to submit evidence of a smog certification every other renewal period.

Vehicles that are four model years old or less are exempt from the biennial smog requirements for registration renewal.

Evidence of a current smog certification must be provided by a seller except when transfer occurs between a spouse, sibling, child, parent, grandparent, or grandchild. Smog certifications are good for 90 days from the date of issuance.

The inspection is not required on a transfer if a biennial smog certification was submitted to DMV within 90 days prior to the vehicle transfer date (a vehicle inspection report may be required for proof of certification).

How old does a vehicle have to be to qualify for a smog exemption?

Vehicles with a year model 30 years old or older are exempt from the smog certification requirements.

Example: The calendar year is 2003- 29 = 1974 exempt year model

The current calendar year minus 29 equals the year model exempt from smog certification.

I own 75 C20 with a 350-4bbl. My truck is equipped with no cats, dual ex, carburetor preheat (stove), AIR, PVC and evap can. Limits for 1974 and 1975 are very generous compared to newer cars. Table below is the old idle / 2500 RPM test
