1973 Sadle tank fuel pump options for FItech?

Helping a friend get ready to install a FItech throttlebody set up on his 1973 SWB 4x4 454 truck. He wants to run in tank fuel pumps. Does he need to get new fuel tanks or switch over to a newer style like the 87 tanks? Any advice on the best way to do this would be appreciated.

Re: 1973 Sadle tank fuel pump options for FItech?

easy is 87 efi tank for swb or lwb as per the vehilce needs .

87 efi sender unit with out pump on it . cheeper this way .

96 c3500 2wd 350 vortec . replacment fuel pump only for this gets you 60-65 psi range . clips on 87 efi sender unit .

and basic factory bolt in job this way .

but early trucks used smaller fuel filler neck hose so be prepared to have possible hose fitment on filler nipple at tank .

not fitech but we installed a holley sniper (same basic setup) on a 79 c30.

we bought the sniper fuel pump kit, which included a frame mounted pump and a 90 degree return fitting for the tank.

we flushed our tank out really good and drilled a hole for the return, left everything else stock.

no issues

Completly disagree. Have installed and used several of them. Use the command center and leave everything else stock.

I'm not trying to be a jerk, I'm just saying your comment is completely opposite of my experience. What problem are people experiencing? There is always the Edelbrock version that $100 less without the pretty guages.

He’s not wrong on the fuel command center. If you search there are plenty of threads about people have issues with them. Believe they were pushing fuel past thru the vent

I ran my vent lines back to the tank. Guess that explains why I don't notice it.

Re: 1973 Sadle tank fuel pump options for FItech?

Thanks for all the response you guys. FItech unit is ordered and tanks and pumps are on their way.

Is there anything that needs to be done with the selector valve for the tanks?

Re: 1973 Sadle tank fuel pump options for FItech?

the selector valve needs to be rated for the HIGH psi of the system .

i dont know off hand of a valve rated for this .

i am doing left tank as efi tank . and right side storage / transfer tank to left with a pump and switch .

even gm used a transfer pump from extra to main tank factory with a controler box .

Re: 1973 Sadle tank fuel pump options for FItech?

at a min you would need to look into the TBI year fuel valve, but I'm not sure if they would handle the pressure of modern fuel injection

Re: 1973 Sadle tank fuel pump options for FItech?

A lot of guys have been using these. https://www.autozone.com/fuel-delive...?checkfit=true on LS swaps.

You can see a pic of how I did my sending unit to the hose with AN line for my fitech install w/intank pumps. Used ACDelco EP381 it plugs right into the 87 Sending unit.

If you need AN Hose check us out - there are some offers in the vendors section. http://www.hotrodfuelhose.com

What year are you getting the transfer pump parts from? Never ran into one of those setups, how exactly do they work? Does it automatically shut off when the other tank is full?

Re: 1973 Sadle tank fuel pump options for FItech?

Thanks for the additional information! I got the Delphi version of that AC pump in stock (FE011). And the Napa number for the selection valve is 2-2198 ordered.

Can I use the original in dash switch to run the new selector vvalve?

You will need to get
Fuel selector switch from an 87, replaces existing dash switch (AC Delco p/n D7089C)
