Paint Removal
Hi all Ive found a truck that the PO has spray painted a door black on and was wandering if yall knew of any tips/tricks on removing it. I was thinking fine sandpaper to take down the spray paint to the original paint?

Re: Paint Removal
Depending on what kind of paint is under the black paint, lacquer thinner will wash off the black paint but may also wash off the original paint too.
A chemical bath will know the difference between lacquer (aerosol paint) and urethane paint (used on cars since the mid 80's for the most part).Test a small spot first on where there is no black aerosol paint to see if the lacquer thinner dissolves it. Put some thinner on a white rag, rub a spot and see if your rag changes color to indicate that it is lacquer paint. Sandpaper will not know the difference between sanding the black paint from the paint underneath it so I would not use sandpaper. If your truck has the original paint under the black paint, the lacquer will dissolve it too along with the aerosol black paint in which case, you're going to be sanding and painting. Show some pictures; we all like pictures!
