I was looking down into my cab corner pocket (the hole in the floor directly behind the door) while I was installing some dynomat. both sides were full of dirt and broken glass and an old bolt that looked lit it had a layer of paint on top of it all. I dug it all out and this is what I found. My question is, is there supposed to be seam sealer over the crack and hole I found on one side? That is what I was thinking because the other side seems to have some seam sealer covering it up. Also how should I get rid of the surface rust out of the pocket? I don't think I can get any tools down there.

Sandblasting would be the best way to get rid of the rust and then a good epoxy primer for a temporary fix. Long term you’d be better off cutting it out and welding in a new cab corner.

I can't do anything that drastic. The truck has just been painted.

I agree with dracko. If it isn't easy for you to sandblast, I would clean off as much of the loose rust as possible and try this:

I have used this for the interior of a gas tank and it did an amazing job.

thanks. I don't think the hole in the one side is rust. I think it is metal panels separating. should I use seam sealer on them? or is there supposed to be a hole there for letting water out?

No hole. But I agree with using these products, you'll need to let the rinse water out when prepping anyway so it's to your benefit at this point.

should I use a rust encapsulator afterwords and what should I use to fill the gaps?

Make sure your rust converter/neutralizer has phosphoric acid in it and turns the metal black. Also make sure whatever coating you put on after also has phosphoric acid. I’ve had good luck with Chassis Saver by Magnet Paints. There’s also POR-15..

Por 15 is the way to go. Will stop the rust, no damage to the exterior paint. Works great.

This is the stuff I am using. Great reviews. But you need to nock off the loose stuff.

POR 15 is pretty popular. But i think a lot is good marketing. It has to be prepped properly and I have seen it turn out very poorly. I don't recommend it. There are cheaper and more reliable products out there.
