What is your dream truck?

Reading the posts of shortbed vs long bed and Cheyenne supers etc....IF you could order any 67-72 new, what would you order?
I would order a black 1968 Chevrolet cst shortbed, 396 auto, wood bed, heater delete, radio delete, red interior with buddy buckets pwr brakes and steering, tach, choke delete

Re: What is your dream truck?

It makes me wonder who has the most loaded, original SPID....but it might have already been posted here on the website.
A few options beyond your list (for me) would include am/fm, factory shoulder belts, 3:73:1, Posi, tilt wheel, cruise control, a/c, in bed spare tire mount.....oh, I could probably go on...lol

Big blocks weren't available on these trucks until 1969. As K put it, best you're going to get is a 327. My dream truck is in pieces pending rebuild. Other than that the 67 you mention works for me, but light blue.

Re: What is your dream truck?

The hardest part of this fantasy remains the time machine design...

(And yes I have had this same fantasy).

1). 1971 or 1972 1 ton, 9 foot long bed.
2). 292 6 cylinder engine
3). 3.73 rear end
4). 4 speed in floor *3 speed on column would be fine though
5). stepside
6). grill guard
7). ochre color
8). 7 gauge cluster including tach, vacuum pressure
9). bench seat
10). wood bed
11). air conditioning
12). power assisted steering
13). power assisted brakes
14). offset air cleaner
15). manual throttle
16). manual choke
17). spare tire on side
18). rear step bumper
19). NAECO (is that the company?) 4wd instal
20). tinted windows
21). painted bumpers
22). tilt steering *forgot about that one!

So basically a 1 ton, lwb 4 speed version of what I have with AC.

Re: What is your dream truck?

I'm going to venture to say most people would order something really similar to this truck. Belongs to member sameyrasmea72, definitely the highest option truck I have seen.

396 was available in 68 according to the brochure, so I changed my dream to 68 as big block wins over small back window

a low optioned '67 short bed beats out any high optioned later model truck in my book . Stuffing one full of options it didn't come with defeats the attraction for me .

I thought everyone knew that 68 was first year big block??? Not common knowledge?

My 68 Golden is about as close to anything I could imagine I'd want, and yes it came with the 396. In 1980 I was looking for just an old pickup, man life without a pickup is not good!

A friend told me about this pickup. A retired Pastor had owned it, his health had not been good for a while. It was not in very good shape. Just what I was looking for!!! I opened the hood and could not believe what I saw!

Mine is 396/TH400/AC/PS/PB. My only problem is getting it back to great condition! I'm working in that direction!

I plan to have front disc brakes, 3.73 posi, functioning AC, I have a bunch of stuff accumulated. Pickup came with 3.07 open rear. I completely rebuilt the drum brakes. They suck, even in new condition.

LOL, I have one of those. Although it is a long bed. It has the small back window, which I don't care for...This one will get on road before the 68. It came with 283, glide, and that's about all...(Oh, it did have AC, weird option with so very few other options...) Will have 3.73 posi, 406, TH400, PS, AC, front disc.

Yea, that would please me! Of course I was only 14 years old then, and had paper route money!

Re: What is your dream truck?

Exactly! Only make it a 4x4, 6 cyl 4 speed, and I'd be satisfied.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

My truck is fairly close to this ^^ but missing a few options. One day I'll make it worthy of it's own history.

At some point when I can eventually afford a second "keeper" I really want a 71-72 short fleet bare bones I-6 pickup in factory condition. Grandpa style...

Re: What is your dream truck?

GM didn't build a big block 4X4 in '68, so I would have to get two:
A long bed 4X4 with straight six, 4 on the floor and bench seat in light blue
and a 50th anniversary with a big block.

I have always thought this was one of the best trucks on this board.
And that is still in existence
I believe it is a survivor, to boot.

A lotta BIG dreamers here, just give me basically what I have with the exception of adding power steering and better brakes and I'm as happy as an old man in a chevy truck. I'm just a simpleton I guess, LOL
