1986 Corvette donor parts?

Hi All,

Picked up an 86 vette for super cheap, no motor or trans but everything else is there.

I am going to take all of the suspension\brakes\steering off and use the Flat Out crossmember on the front and rear.

Once I rob the suspension, is there anything else on that car that I should be keeping for my truck? I don't want the seats but any other items? If not I am going to take it down to the local salvage yard.

Thanks

Maybe the steering column if you want tilt. I’m not familiar with how bulky the Vette column might be. Maybe too bulky to look right?

I’d reconsider keeping the seats unless you’re dead set against bucket seats. You’d likely have to re-cover them anyway and once stripped modifying the frames to get rid of headrests isn’t all that hard

Keep the rims and tires as rollers til you decide on final wheels.

I'd pull the booster and master cylinder. Use for core credit on new ones. Glass top is worth a few bucks...

Re: 1986 Corvette donor parts?

I bought an 85 Corvette for $2500 (Running Car) I also purchased the F/O Front and Rear
Kits. I am using the L98 350 TPI in my 58 Cameo and the 700R4 Trans from the Car.
I had to make a simple bracket setup because of the Corvette tail shaft on the trans.
Like Dan said, I did keep the cars wheels for being able to roll the truck around.
I opted Not to use the steering Column from the Car and ended up selling everything
that I could and got close to $1800 back on my investment. Yes it took around a year
but I had the Space. I was very Surprised on the Calls I would get for Interior Parts!
The car had a Glass Targa Top that was Cracked and a guy gave me $100 for it.
I am Very happy with the Flat Out Kits and cant wait to be able to drive the Truck!

Re: 1986 Corvette donor parts?

Drove 5 hours to pick up the C4 and it turns out the car was more or less gutted of everything except the steering column and the suspension parts that I needed. I’m not that bothered though, basically I got a full front and rear setup and a good column for $200. I’ll try to sell the steering column for the $200 so maybe I come out with free suspension. Hopefully the local salvage yard will take the rest of the car off my hands without charging me...

I'd just run it on Craigslist anyhow with some good photos and saying that it is stripped. Someone may be happy to give you your 200 back and carry the hulk off just to get one or two parts. Anything to cut the cost down and if you sold the column separate that might help you with the Kitty for the flat out pieces.

48 Chev 3100 that will run a 292 Six.
71 GMC 2500 that is getting a Cad 500 transplant.
77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.

I stripped it of the suspension parts and took the carcass to the local wrecking yard, they gave me $200 so in the end I got a full C4 suspension setup for free. Time to tear it down, clean it up and order the Flat Out front and rear kits.
