tires 16.5
my truck has 31x10.5 x 16.5 tires. Is anyone else running 16.5 tires. Seems like they are hard to find. May have to end up getting different rims.

Re: tires 16.5
I'm running 33 12.5 16.5 on my 72. I know BFG says they'll always make them as long as they don't have any issues with the molds. I did some looking and your size does look near extinct. Have you tried calling any tire dealers to see if any of them still produce any?

Re: tires 16.5
I got mine through a goodyear dealer. Big-O will order them in as they don't stock the 16.5s. Tire rack had them listed when I was shopping and so did Discount tire. That was around 2-3 years ago though.

Re: tires 16.5
You probably don't want bias plies, but: STA Super Traxions are nice:
http://www.stausaonline.com/tires/sta-super-traxion/ They have others as well: http://www.stausaonline.com/product-...t-truck-tires/ If you want modern radials, I have used Firestone TransForce HT 9.50s, but on a 4x4, the AT version may look better. It's still not a "real" aggressive looking tread, but is a quality tire. In order: STA Super Traxion Firestone TransForce AT Firestone TransForce HT (more for a 2WD truck, but depends on your use) |

Re: tires 16.5
I ran BFG 33/12.50-16.5s on my K20 until last summer. Tried to replace them (dry rotted) but couldn't find them at TireRack or America's Tire (Discount Direct). Even the BFG website didn't list them. Ended up with 255/85-16 Coopers on 16x7 Ford steelies.

Re: tires 16.5
I think when they redesigned the BFG all terrain is when they discontinued the 16.5's in the 33's. They we're the last size to go. To my knowledge, bias, Firestone, and a few swampers are still the only players in 16.5.

Re: tires 16.5
16.5s have jumped from 9.50s to 12.50s for many years. The 10.00s. 10.50s, 11.00s haven't been around for quite some time from what I've seen.

Fresh bias ply 16s on a k20, not bad look (not 16.5s though)! http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...5&postcount=77

Re: tires 16.5
I hung with the 16.5s to run my old rims, but I've moved on except for show, to be all original, or to run my slots. I caved in and went with 16 x 8 steelies on my '72 for ease of service and choice of tire. If I get a C/20 I have a pair of 16.5 x 8.25 steelies I'll put the Firestone 9.50s on for the rear and be looking for another pair for the front. Just because that would be really cool.

Re: tires 16.5
I have several sets of 9.50 x 16.5 Firestone transforce HT's on trucks. That's are great and if you shop around, not priced too bad.

Re: tires 16.5
I picked up the Firestone HT Jocko mentioned for $165 each. They just fit a 8.5 x 16.5 wheel.
What I won't do is replace the tires on the 9.75 x 16.5 rear wheels. They run $400 each.

Re: tires 16.5
All the tire shops can order them but was told that Firestone is the only company that makes 16.5''s nowadays. Just go to Firestone to get them or you'll be paying more.

Re: tires 16.5
If you want off roadish tires I bought 33x12.5 16.5 radial tsl (Swamper) from 4wheelparts online. They are pushing 300 bucks per tire, kinda pricey.
They aren't really what I wanted, I wanted Radial TA but they just aren't available anymore. I did talk to Wes recently at Classic Heartbeat and we were talking tires. He swears you can still get the 33x12.5 16.5 TA's You might shoot him a PM. I had to wait a bit for the tires. I guess they make runs of them when they get enough orders? Im not sure, but they only had two in stock when I ordered. In the end I really like them. Not really as aggressive looking (to me at least) as they thought they would be. I don't drive the truck a ton, and very little on the HWY, but overall I haven't noticed any significant road noise. Course the truck is noisy, I haven't bothered to put on my new door seals yet, and I usually have the slider open. My truck has a four inch lift but it would be fine with a 2.5 inch lift as far as clearance goes. ![]()

I scored these wheels n tires with an ammo trade to replace the rusted snap ring 15's on dad's '65 transforce ht 9.50R16.5LT which btw I'll let go cheap if some on me needs a set as I'm planning to put the farm tires back on it.. wheels came cheap enough, tires were just a bonus.. ![]() ![]() was looking into converting to 16's but come to find out, in vintage style tires, 16.5's are as or more plentiful.. Re: tires 16.5
The 16.5" is still common enough in the larger tire sizes (36 and bigger), but they're getting nearly impossible in the smaller sizes. A few years back you could still find 33", but even those are getting hard to find.
Tire rack lists only 3 sizes for the 16.5 currently. A 37x12.5-16.5, a 8.75-16.5 and a 9.5x16.5.

Re: tires 16.5
Places like Tire Rack are only about high volume sales. They don't bother with anything they can't sell a boat load of. They are lame for finding 255/85-16s simply because that size isn't real popular, even though they'll have other sizes by the same company that offers them.

9.50X16.5 and 12.00x16.5 tires are still available from Samson. They are a 2 rib highway tread.

My tire guy told me today he can't find anything in 33 12.5 16.5. Maybe BFG did drop them?
