Upgraded alternator and installed headlight relays

What a difference! I upgraded to an internally regulated 12SI 94 amp alternator and redid the wiring using Vettevet’s diagram. I used a Seadog marine grade buss bar mounted to the core support by the left headlights. Works great and is easy to access or inspect. From left to right are: fusible link to power for cab (that’s why it is black and seems small), black/ white wire for ammeter, high beam headlight power, low beam headlight power, charge wire to battery, alternator sensing wire and alternator charge wire. You can see the 2 headlight relays in the bottom left corner of the pic. The relays have built in fuse holders, we’ll see how they work out. All new 14g wire from the relays to the headlights. Used the original headlight wires to switch the relays.
Prior to the upgrade, at idle at a stop light, if I had lights on and heater going, voltage would drop to 11.8v. Now, it only goes down to 13.7 or so.

Nice job, and welcome aboard. And now the dimmer switch is carrying a very low amp load.

Re: Upgraded alternator and installed headlight relays

Thanks. I’ve been lurking here for quite a while. Just don’t post often. Here is a pic of the truck and my other “older” vehicles: 1965 Mercedes 220 that my dad picked up new at the factory, still all original including paint, 1978 Toyota FJ40, the 1972 gmc K2500.
