700r4 starter question

Hey guys my first post on here. I need some help, I have a 67 c10 stock 283. Was a 3 on the tree. I purchased a 700r4 from monster. So far everything has went smooth. I went to parts store and bought a starter for an automatic truck they gave me part number R713240B I get it home it doesn't fit, the outside hits the flexplate. My question is what starter do I need or did they give me the wrong starter? I have a 168 tooth flexplate if that makes a difference. Thanks in advance.

Re: 700r4 starter question

Lots of different starters out there. The nose of the starter is the problem I'm guessing. Ran into this on my camaro. Took the starter that came with my car to a shop that rebuilds them. When it came time to install it same problem. Luckily enough I figured out what nose I needed and they looked around in there shop and found one. Cost an extra 20.00 but I was glad I didn't have to start over with a complete different starter

Re: 700r4 starter question

Simple, you were given a stater for a 153 tooth flexplate. Get a proper hi-torque unit for a 168 tooth. Notice the staggered mounting holes, your oreily unit has them straight across.
I believe this one is correct for you. ACDELCO 3371016
