Having your truck towed

For those of you using your truck mostly as a daily driver, does your insurance cover towing. Or do you have some other towing coverage.

The reason I ask is I have a roadside assistance package, but they will not tow ANYTHING 20 years and older.

Re: Having your truck towed

I have state farm on my truck and it has towing. You could call it towing - its limited to 11 miles any thing over - your dime.

Re: Having your truck towed

Is a roll back considered "towing?"

I have roadside assistance on my insurance but I've never used it.

Re: Having your truck towed

never asked but I've had my 67 gto towed about 15 years ago by AAA..

they are the most widely recognized and user friendly in my experience..

100 mile coverage for Mrs. Bee and I is cheap enough annually to be worth it for me..

had my 02 gmc towed a few years ago when fuel pump quit on the freeway..

towed my '74 c20 off the freeway for double blowout.. well, rf blowout and fender molding hanging out of rr

we have usaa insurance but never used their roadside assistance..

Re: Having your truck towed

I've never had that issue with age affecting anything. If I pay for towing, or it's included, then I expect my vehicle to get towed. It would most likely be a rollback and a Model T is no issue for one of those.

Re: Having your truck towed

Have had AAA for many years, only used a few times, but service was great. Never thought about year of vehicle, sounds strange? As long as reg is in my name it's covered, also covered with someone else if I'm a passenger.

Re: Having your truck towed

I've had a couple insurance companies tell me they will only cover towing if you're on an established road or highway, and I *think* it has to be a paved road.
No help if you break down in the woods, for instance on a dirt or gravel Forest Service road.

Re: Having your truck towed

^ not only not covered by most road hazard, most tow driver's won't go off highway..

took a couple of benjamins to get this guy out of gorman to boom me out..

if I recall, it took my buddy's k20 crew tied off to the front of the wrecker to lift it out..

here we are negotiating, lol

this was the landing the night before..

Re: Having your truck towed

There is towing and there is recovery. I think they only tow from an established road because it's emergency road service, not free towing. If it's sitting at home and needs a ride to the shop it's up to you to hire a tow. If you bought an old truck from behind someone's barn you have to hire the tow.

Re: Having your truck towed

And if you break down in the woods, miles from any established road....

It only happened to me once, and now I carry a few more tools. Luckily I got a cell signal (not a sure thing around here) and the tow driver had been hunting in the area a week before, so he knew where we were. I could have walked out but my wife was with me, not a good situation. That one cost me a little but at least they gave me a break.....

Re: Having your truck towed

I'd have to go dig out the policies, but I'm pretty sure that if my truck breaks down, the insurance covers loading the truck and the travel trailer up for a ride to the nearest repair facility, or home, depending on the distance.

My roadside assistance is through Coach-Net, known in the RV world as one of the best. But they refused to tow my 67 Cutlass. Even though their website says ALL vehicles I own will be towed.

I have State Farm on the Cutlass, agreed value, but limited towing. Basicly pay now then file a claim.

Re: Having your truck towed

I have Roadside Rescue thru Verizon. I think it's really Allstate. Somehow it's cheaper packaged with my cell phone than thru my insurance broker -- go figure.
Anyway, broken down in town, no problem. I've had my '71 GMC Jimmy and my '68 Stepside on the back of a flatbed. If I'm more than 10 miles from home, I cet charged additionally, but never had a problem with their taking vintage full size Detroit iron. Of course the '92 Subaru gets on the back the most. Usually the trucks can get patched up enough with a full set of tools on the rig when outbacking. Depends on what gets @#$!ed up.

Re: Having your truck towed

My commute to work has been 50+ miles each way for years, so I have a family RV plan with AAA that covers up to 100 miles, my utility trailer, and also my Harley.

My F350 died when I was towing my trailer and 2 AAA trucks showed up within 20 minutes. Have also has a few tows that were 65 miles plus.

Last time was when my K10 stopped charging (broken wire) and they first sent the smaller jump start truck, and then once we determined what the issue was he had a flatbed there in about 15 minutes.

Great insurance for me and my wife.

Re: Having your truck towed

AAA brought the kids 67 home a few times. Even when his driveshaft let loose and half of it dissapeared. That time his state inspection wasn't even valid and that was a pretty good haul home.

They have also came and pulled him outa a jam up when it was obvious he was playing in a fun spot off the road with the blazer.

He has abused his AAA but they put up with him. He gets membership renewal every year for his b-day.

I called them once mid day to fetch me many miles from home on the motorcycle. I got a run around for a long while on the phone and eventually while hanging up on me they said they DON'T tow motorcycles

AAA does tow motorcycles if you have the correct plan for your area. In NH an RV plan does include motorcycles, whereas in Florida for example, the RV plan does not. My BIL sells AAA memberships in FL, and I was signing up through him until I noticed the difference in motorcycle coverage.
