msd 6al ?

Me and a friend are building a s10 with a small block well we were going to fire the motor a little while ago but we're not getting fire . we ran the test that is in the directions of the 6al box and got no results which by them means the box is bad . I pulled the dist. out and turned it by hand . I can hear the boxed making a clicking noise but no signal at the neg. side of the coil.
with the ing. switch on I have power at the pos.side of the coil and a constant ground at the neg side of the coil ,even when spinning the dist. . I thought the neg side was a pulse side . Does anyone have any Ideas?
Thanks
Brian

I have one on my truck and from the sounds of it, its bad. I plugged mine in and it worked excellent. I could weld with it if i wanted.

The MSD 6 series pulses very fast, if you were using a digital volt meter they will not respond fast enough to detect the drop of the ground and I doubt you will even see it on an analog meter because it is trying to fire multiple sparks. You might want to check the coil by checking the resistance across your coil, and double check you’re wiring. Before you go sending it back

We have gone through the wiring till I'm blue in the face. we're going to try another box today . I'm almost positive that it is the problem . My buddy went to a msd trouble shooting site last night and found the same problem we're having and it said replase box so I ordered another one from Advance auto parts and going to try it . I will update later today.

Mine kinda hums. I put it inside the cab under the A/C box and the firewall and I may put it back in the engine compartment. No stereo in the truck right now, so I hear it the whole time I drive. Maybe I'll just get some speakers and install the stereo.
