Fuel tank upgrade sending unit
I am looking at tanks to install under my bed. The K5 tanks look very interesting. In the near future (6 months to a year) I plan to do an LS swap. I have considered running an EFI sending unit/intank pump from a later model, injected K5 after the swap (with the swap I also plan on upgrading to an electronic dash so there is no problem switching to a 90 ohm unit).
1 Can I use my current sending unit in a K5 tank? Is the mounting ring a standard size and latching pattern? I understand that I will have to adjust the travel distance on the float arm. 2 Am I on track with the stock in tank sending unit for an LS swap? Thanks |

Re: Fuel tank upgrade sending unit
Your in cab gas tanks sending unit will not work in a '69-'72 K5 Blazer tank. If you want to use a OEM style sender with an in tank pump, I believe you will want to use a '88-'91 K5 Blazer tank. What I would do, is purchase the later model '88-'91 EFI tank now and make an adapter plate to mount a 0-30 ohm sender in the EFI tank with the larger opening.
