Getting 27x11-15 drag slicks to tuck into bed sides?

Hello all,
I'm trying to prep my '68 GMC for a informal grudge style drag race in Tucson in 17 days. My truck is lowered about 5.5" in the rear. I picked up a set of 27" x 11"-15 Goodyear drag slicks, in an attempt to get this thing to hook up. My bed is currently off, getting body work done. This brings me to my problem. I put the slicks up to the bed and they rub inside and out, which give me my obvious answer... Not buy smaller tires, but tub the bed. So, I'm going to remove the rear wheel tub's, cut the bed back, then widen the wheel tubs.

So, with my bed off, getting a little metal work done and ready for epoxy primer (bed is all bare metal now), I need to figure out my wheel backspacing. I'm wondering if anyone has experience to draw upon that can give me an answer, otherwise I'll just need to measure and hope for the best. Only looking to install a 15x10" wheel with a 27"x11" tire. I was leaning towards a 15x10" wheel with 5" of back spacing. I'll need to pull some more measurements, but does anyone have a similar setup, and what wheel backspacing are you running?

Thanks,
Nik

I run a 15x12 with 6.5 bs, but it was tight. I trimmed my fender lips and welded in flat plate. 15x 12 with 7.5 bs would be better but im on bags too. I think with your drop that the 15x10 w/ 5" bs will be fine with tubs only. First two are with frame setting on axle. Last is ride hight. Get the long track bar and center it for ride hight. The longer and more level the track bar at ride hight will help with the side to side shift and pretty much eliminate any rubbing

Thanks for the reply! Your truck looks great! Thank you for the reply! I ended up ordering some 15 x 10 Aero Race Wheels with 6" BS. should work, as that should put the inside and outside lip each 1/2" proximal to the wheel centerline. The only stressor now is whether the wheels will be built and shipped before I need them, as they are apparently a custom offset. It says that they will ship by Jan. 17th. I hope to head out of town on the 19th, so we'll see how that goes...

Hello, I'd like to know how the 15x10 works out. From your avatar it looks like you have a stepside. We are looking to fit and 10" wheel on the rear of our step. Thanks.
