I've posted before, that I have no SPID and I've known my truck a very long time.. 1972 custom 10 deluxe 4x4. It's unrestored other than a respray ( which I assume is when the SPID was destroyed) and my recent big block swap. I've read the replies on trim package threads by jacko, sstim, and others.. I'm positive (I think)

my truck was a deluxe as badged, but was it common for these to be ordered with headliner and cargo light option ? Was it owner preference on order sheet ?? Thanks

No headliner on a custom deluxe. Cargo light was an option on Custom and Custom deluxe.

Maybe a cab swap? Or your truck was a Cheyenne when new. It's also possible the headline was added be a previous owner. Is your vin tag attached with the correct rosett rivets?

Thanks for the replies ! I guess its another one of my trucks many mysteries.... Im positive no cab change and the rivets and plate are correct and un-molested as well... I would never have known to ask if not for reading these threads !! Haha... I thought maybe cheyenne as well but all outer trim looks to be untouched and has black painted inserts ?? I guess someone may have wanted a headliner and installed one but they done a nice job installing... Darn I wish I had a build sheet or SPID

Does your vin start with CKE?

Considering the headliner, like most options back then, could be ordered a ala carte so a headliner and or cargo light could be ordered as seperate options. Here is pic of my Custom/Deluxe Highlander, non package, with cargo light on the spid and I wish the headliner would have been checked off as well.

The headliner wasn't a stand alone option, and wasn't available to order. It was only standard on a Cheyenne or Cheyenne super

Interesting.. That surprises me as you could order almost anything a la carte back then. It'd be nice to find an order book for the trucks. .

Yes CKE and all match. I can trace my truck back to almost new just never spoke with first owner before they passed.. I know the second owner... And Im the third... My seat cover and door panels are decorative and are original to the truck.. No wood grain whatsoever, and as I mentioned it has both upper and lower trim with black insets, and just CHEVROLET lettered tailgate with the upper and lower trim piece.. Everything screams just as it is badged custom 10 deluxe. But those cheyenne threads got me thinking why mine had a headliner ??

A lot can happen in 45+ years. As you say, been repainted, engine swap, 3 different owners... Who knows. I believe joe is correct as only the Cheyenne/sierra CST trucks came with a headliner. Cargo light was its own option. I would guess the headliner was added.

Yes I agree as well.... Headliner added..I done the engine swap it was all original drivetrain when I bought it. It has been mostly untouched all of its life. And kept pretty decent. Adding a headliner would have been an easy addition if one wanted. Thats why I hang out here guys like joe that know their stuff !! Thanks guys

One way to tell if the headliner was in fact factory on that cab would be to see if the cab has the slots for the headliner trim to snap into. It would be easy enough to add. It's always fun and interesting to learn the history on these trucks. Post up some pictures of your truck, we all like pictures 👍
