Truck lowered and now resting on lower A arm bump stop

Lowered the truck yesterday 4.5/6 with a McGaughy's kit.

Now the front is resting on the bump stop. After searching I haven't found an answer so I'm asking. I know many have removed them but I also saw that some trimmed them.

My concern is that it's currently resting on the bump stops and the springs are new so it should settle a little. How much more will it drop? Did my springs drop it that much? I haven't seen anyone else post about this problem, so hopefully it's just me and I can just remove the bump stops but I'd hate to do that and then find out that I needed some of it.

My other concern is there is only 1" between the top of my tire and the inner fender.

Im not to sure but from the looks of it you might have to remove that bracket the bump stop is sitting on and then re install the bump stop. Im sure someone will chime in shorty

My bumpstop was also touching just like yours. I ended up removing the bumpstop and mount from the arm completely. I can't say how much lower your truck will get without the stop or after your springs settle, but I would make sure it's no more than 1" lower than where it is now. Any lower than that and you get to the point where the lower balljoint starts to bind up during suspension travel.

I cut mine where the bumpstop stops growing and is just a square base on a 5" drop. 100k miles and 11yrs later still works fine.

Great info, thank you, much appreciated. Just was worried it's going to be too much if I cut it off.

Tom, so if I understand you correctly, you mean you cut off the triangle part and left just a square base of the stock pad? Thanks for the reply!

Thanks folks, I didn't realize that Energy Suspension makes a lowered bump stop specifically as an OEM replacement! The make a direct replacement that's 2 5/8" or the lowered one that's 1 5/8" so I'm ordering a set to see how the fit up. I removed the stock one last night and boy did it make a difference in the ride!

This is what I did as well (plus the "positive stop" portion of the metal bracket).

250,000 and 30 years on mine.

That's great on the confirmation.

Also is anyone else rubbing their inner fenders? I didn't think my 28" tall wheel would be so close but it's definitely rubbing in places. Is my wheel now too big?

My follow-up to what Keith Seymore did for his is it might help w/contact @ the x-member & bump stop, but it can also now allow contact @ the top of the tire/bottom of the inner well depending on tire OD. Sometimes you have to make a choice of what is preferred to make contact or what further mods you are willing to do (taller inner wells).

remove the jack if you have it on the wheelwell, I still had the bolts in mine and it made a nice groove in the tire

All depends on:

• How tall the sidewalls are

• How much clearance everything has (what extra clearance mods have been done?)

• What the spring rate is

• What quality of shocks were chosen

• What the alignment specs are

Since many combo's are different, ride quality might be similar for some but it won't be the same for all.

No extra mods done for clearance, not enough or too much spring rate, & cheap quality shocks will ride like crap regardless of sidewall height. Of course, opinions of what is a 'good' ride quality are subjective.

Thanks the photos and info Tom, Keith and Scoti, I ended up cutting 1" off the bump stop, I have limited the rubbing on the top of the inner fender but still have rubbing on the turns, looks like I will need to open up the inner fender or end up with a smaller tire up front.
