Late Style Power Steering Reservoir on a 71 Clearance Issues
Hope you can help, I did some searches but may have missed the target so I figure I ask.
I am piecing my beloved '71 GMC 1500 350/350 short bed. The truck came with the third gen 73-87 accessory setup and I am reverting it back to a short water pump and alternator on the driver side, etc. etc. I have a wonderful source for used parts in town so I sourced all the proper brackets, I am so happy with that score, but they did not have a power steering pump, and I wasn't sure I wanted to buy a 45 year old part anyway. So I went out and bought a new Power Steering Pump from O'Reilly's since online in the pictures it looked different than the one I had, especially the canister aka reservoir. However what was shown in the pics is noy what came in the box! Here is what the pics looked like, and what I was hoping to get: |

... and this is what actually came in the box, it looks just like the one on my '74
well the problem is that the top part is wider and rubs against the bracket, more than rubs makes it impossible or difficult to adjust the belt etc. so any of you runnnig the new wider style reservoir on your second gen 350 small block trucks? |

The Chimney style housing with rebuilt pumps with are to come by anymore, the late model square type will fit with the correct brackets. You can change the pumps, just have to remove the housings. The pumps are the same. Take a look at this thread:
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...+steering+pump I have a spare chimney style I can part with, give me a PM.
