Stubborn block plug

I need to remove the plug in the driver's side of my block, so I can get the stock temp gauge back to normal operation.

Looks like the plug has been in a while, and without cranking too damn hard, I have not been able to budge it with a 2' extension.

Any suggestions?

I did soak it with penetrating oil. Too cold out to mess with it now.

Longer extension? Impact? Curse at it?

Might try with hot engine if possible. Heat sometimes makes it easier.

Double check which way to pull it. It seems stupid but most of us have done the tighten instead of loosen trick. Sometimes it WILL help to give it a push in the tighten direction, then go back to loosen.

2nd on try it with a warm motor.

I'll try it warm, but not looking forward to hot water gushing out on me,,,

So, what about an impact?

My suggestion is to heat the surrounding block area around the plug with a MAP gas torch or similar to expand the threaded area of the block.

If it breaks loose when the motor is warm, nothing says you have to fully remove it then. You can wait until things cool off.

Not only that, but when your frustrated and mad, you don't think clearly. I know I have that issue.

I can't imagine the frustration you have been going thru with that temp sensor. When I did mine and got the radiator fluid back in, I let it run to burp it. When I was sure it was ready, I shut the truck off, but didn't put the radiator cap back on. The truck started chugging & backfiring, fluid was shooting out everywhere!! I was pissed. So had to start the process all over again, jeez!!

HA HA, yep that's generally me.

My truck interior has been gutted for a good while now. Installing new Dash pad, new cluster lens and clock, temp gauge, flooring, seat cover, stereo, etc.

'Bout ready to HAVE IT DONE!

Been there, did all this too, about 3-4 yrs ago. Hang in there, it will all be worth it when its finally done.
