center link needed

Ii`m looking for a center link for a 71-72 1/2 ton 2wd. Ii bought a disc brake set up off of a 71 and was told I would need the 71 center link to fit my 68 c10. I posted this once before and someone suggested Kanters but they don`t list one for trucks. Does anyone know where I can get a N.O.S, aftermarket or really, really good used center link? Thanks.

i went to advanceautoparts.com and they don`t sell one. is this the correct website? it transfers over to partsamerica.com. i`ve tried all the auto parts places around here with no luck. i`ve also checked all the aftermarket places i could find and nothing. never heard of having a machine shop build one for me. i thought they were fordged, how do they do it? thanks for the help.

boraxman, i haven`t actually went out and measured but figured the suspension is 35yrs old and would`nt hurt to have a new one. made a world of difference when i rebuilt the whole front end on my `69 elcamino. let me know if you run into any problems with yours.

Will do, also let me know if you have any other questions as im also using 71-72 spindles and have figured out alot about doing this swap. I started mine w/ spindles only and built around those so I may be of some help if you have questions.

borawman, i haven`t started my project yet but plan to soon. i was luck and found a `71 with everything i needed, spindles out, upper and lower a-arms(did`nt want them but they trough them in),coplete power steering, box, pump, brackets, lines and the booster, master cylinder and proportion valve. i was told that the `71 and up use different size ball joints and tie rods so thats why i`m looking for a centerlink.

If you got the 71 upper and lower a-arms you may need or want to use them especially if they have the ball joints on them. On mine I was able to swap the ball joints with 71 stlye and use the same a-arms. On the tie rods there is a coupler you can buy that allows you to use 71 outer tie rods and your old outers as the new inners. Again I dont know how different the 68 and 70 trucks are, someone else may want to chime in.

i just went through my front suspension on my 68 and the a-arms are ok as long as you update the upper and lower ball joints to the 71 style. Now for the centerlink, the 68 used a smaller inner and outer tie rod than the 71. you won't be able to use a 71 outer tie rod with a 68 inner tie rod. the threaded portions of the tie rods are different sizes and the coupler won't work. you have to have 71 inners and 71 outers for the 71 coupler to work. you can either have a machine shop ream out the tapered hole on your current 68 centerlink or swap the centerlink out for a 71 centerlink to accept the 71 inner tie rod end. luckily for me, i had some 72 parts trucks laying around.

centerlinks

i can't confirm that, suburbasaurus. i do know that the outer tierods changed from 72 to 73. if the inner tie rods didn't change, then you are correct. fortunately for me, i had what i needed so i didn't have to search. hopefully, somebody out there knows.

Re: center link needed

I have a 72c20. I could get some pictures of the front end and see what you need. I searched drag link, and there were some possibilities. It seems as though sometimes there are two or three names for one part!

no one makes these. gotta find a used one. if a forum member can't sell you one, i've had good luck in junk yards, the center links tend to stick around.

i just swapped my 68 to a 71 front disc setup. i have the part numbers to reuse the 68 centerlink. if that helps i can give you the info tomorrow. but i think it may be cheaper/easier to find a 71-72 centerlink.
