How I routed my exhaust.

This is a video of how I routed my exhaust. It turned out pretty well. Sounds great and is out of the way.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Nice truck. Looks like you got it up as far as it could the way you ran it.

Re: How I routed my exhaust.

Nice work. I've contemplated doing something similar to clear some room for my suspension since my truck is so low, but couldn't figure out a way that I liked to get the exhaust to the outside of the frame. I like the way you did it here, but my only concern on my truck would be ground clearance. Is your exhaust at this crossover point the lowest part of your truck?

Re: How I routed my exhaust.

Excellent video and very nice truck. I have been considering running my exhaust to the outsides of my frame also (for the same reason--outta the way). I like the way you terminated the pipes to the outside, angled down.
My C-30 might be a little different because I want to hang tool boxes and the muffler may get in the way. Still, I may just build the boxes to accomodate the route of the exhaust. Nice job.

I recolored my steering wheel with a vinyl dye instead of paint. It had held up well to UV and grime that usually have on my hands when working on my truck. After two years there was some original color starting to show through but it is easy maintenance by wiping on some dye with a cloth.

Re: How I routed my exhaust.

It doesn't go any lower then my long tube headers that were on the truck when I got it. It it's high enough that it shouldn't be an issue.

How low is your truck?

Thanks for the info on the dye. I'll have to read up on that.

Re: How I routed my exhaust.

Mine is ran almost the same way, but the transition to the outside of the frame happens before the frame flattens out on mine, just behind the control arms. It's definitely funky, but it works well for now. I'll get pics when I get a chance. I think all said and done, if I had the money I'd do it between the rails with some cutouts in the trailing arm crossmember like we see on bagged trucks. So clean that way.

I have considered the transition location as you describe but have concerns about the pipe to tire clearance.

His long pipe headers may have put the collector beyond the wheel wells such that going under the frame after it flattens out may have been the only option. Are you running shorty headers or rams horns?

You're welcome. I got a can of spray-on vinyl dye from Autozone to recolor my visors and just decided to try it on my steering wheel (which I believe is a phenolic). My steering wheel being a dark red to start with was fairly easy to turn black. I do not know if that works as well going the other direction (changing from a dark color to lighter).

Looks like your collector came out at a near perfect height for wrapping under the frame.

Re: How I routed my exhaust.

You are correct. I wish the long tube headers were shorter. If they were I could have tucked it up under where the frame bends up into the wheel well.

I'm still considering that option. Although I suspect there is sufficient clearance (pipe to tire) after going through the well, I'm not yet comfortable with that much heat being close to the tire. My own preference for routing would be as you have done.

I have stock LS manifolds so they are very short. I'll try and get a pic to show the clearance I have. Truck is dropped 5" in the front with no issues.

Looks like that worked out perfectly with running headers. My truck will be 6/9.5 static dropped with stock manifolds. I don't think I could run headers without worrying about clearance all the time.

Re: How I routed my exhaust.

I like how your truck looks mostly black with small chrome pieces, just the right amount of chrome on black. You might have to swap those long tubes if you want to go 4 more inches. I had to on mine when I bagged it, and I also ran the pipe outside the frame rail, but 2 into a single 3.5 inch.

Thanks! Truck looks black in pictures but it's actually black cherry. Not a big fan of the color it is now...so eventually it will be getting paint.

Re: How I routed my exhaust.

Your best bet for your steering wheel is urethane paint with good prep. Dye is for upholstery. Urethane is the tough finish you need and has enough flex qualities to work well on the plastic wheels
