250-6 Carb-Vara-jet

250-6 and it has a 2bbl Varajet carb.

Anyone have any luck overhauling thease carbs. Mine has a big
bog off the line and its horrible when cold.

It appears to be getting a big shot of gas when the throttle is
punched,timing is advancing.

Runs much better when warm ,still bogs if throttle opened
quickly.

Read a small burb about replacing it with one of those 2-bbl
Holley Weber carbs.just need to redrill the mounting holes.

Anyone done this, stock replacement carbs are over $200. Yikes !!

This is an automatic also which makes it more fun when cold.

Trying a cheap fix until I can swap in a V-8 .

This six only gets about 13MPG.

Yeah, my 80 is the exact same way. Except its a 3 on the tree. They are just garbage carbs, the bog really sucks when punched (but can be dealt with, with a clutch) and the milage isnt very wonderful either.

I6s just arent very fuel efficient engines due to the bore/stroke. My 350 doesnt get that worse of fuel milage that my I6 did. Its worse alright, but not too much...

As I'd mentioned I just want to cheap out on this 6 . They are
a good little engine just not to efficent.

The Cad 500 that I have in the garage is destined for this truck.

It came out of a '76 Sedan de Ville and it got 15MPG . Size of a
tank and still obtained fairly good mileage.Hauled ass too.
Midrange from about 45 to 85MPH was tremendous.

I'm going to try and adapt one of those 2bbl Holley Weber's.
They are cheap to buy and I'll either redill the holes or make
myself an adapter.

Thanks for your support.
