Ordered new wheels now trying to get an idea of tire size
I have a 85 c10 - up front (springs/drop spindle) and a flip kit in the rear (no c notch)
I ordered US Mags 20x8 for the front and 20x9.5 for the rear. I looked through tons of threads and am having a hard time coming up with the right tire. I want a little more beef in the rear but not too much to make it look akward. Anyone have any thoughts? I dont want to take out or modify my front fenders either - just want to do it right the first time. Currently I have 275/50-15 rear and 225/60-15 front (the fronts are a bit too small)

Re: Ordered new wheels now trying to get an idea of tire size
I used this chart to help me when I was shopping for tires:
https://tiresize.com/chart/ Stock diameter tires on our squares (2 wheel drive) were right around 29", so that's what I looked for on the rear. Up front, I went with something like 27.6 tall, since I wanted a bit of the "big and little" look... |

Re: Ordered new wheels now trying to get an idea of tire size
yep, I have used the tire size chart to compare sizes but, looking for advice on too big, too small, too much side wall bulge... mainly what works for people so, I know it will work for me.

Re: Ordered new wheels now trying to get an idea of tire size
I have US Mag Ramblers in that size. 245/45-20 and 275/40-20. 2.5 spindle and one coil cut up front and a flip in the rear with no notch. I love the tire height combo.
You’d probably want to go slightly bigger in the rear if you want it a bit beefier.

Re: Ordered new wheels now trying to get an idea of tire size
Right on, thanks. I was thinking a 245/45 up front and maybe a 295/40 in the rear... u think the 295 may be too wide for the 20x9.5 outback?

Re: Ordered new wheels now trying to get an idea of tire size
I'm running 245/40/20 on a 8" wheel up front on mine. 295 is just a smidge wider, you may be able to get away with it.
295/40 is 11.6" versus a 285/40 at 11.2". I have barely enough room to fit two fingers between the inside of my tire and the wheel well. I could probably get away with a 295 but just haven't tried yet.

295/40-20 = 29.29" tall. On a 9.5" wheel you would be @ 1.10" of tire per inch of width. Spot on.

Re: Ordered new wheels now trying to get an idea of tire size
Nobody has mentioned back spacing and that will be critical for wheel tire fit.

Re: Ordered new wheels now trying to get an idea of tire size
With those wheel sizes on a square w/a mild drop I would recommend 4.5"bs front & rear.

Re: Ordered new wheels now trying to get an idea of tire size
255/40/20 fronts on 20x8 and 315/35/20 rears on 20x10s. Flipped rear and 2.5 inch spindles with 2 in springs. No rubbing anywhere. Pull my 18ft ranger bass boat with it too.

Re: Ordered new wheels now trying to get an idea of tire size
So, in the end, I purchased U111 Rambler wheels 20x8 with 245/40 and 20x9.5 with 275/40 Nitto tires. Shipping to Hawaii is a little more but it came to 2k total (with shipping, mounting & balancing, and a new set of lug nuts). All in all not to bad. should be here in about 2 weeks. I got them from SoCal Custom Wheels and their customer service was AWESOME... they worked with me and found reasonable shipping options to Hawaii - not many vendors are willing to go that extra mile.
Just as a teaser - I ordered a FITech EFI set up for it! That should be fun! I will throw some pics up when I get the wheels here and on my Square (haven't named her yet - thats why I havent done a build thread).
