Dual muffler or single??

Thinking or running spintech mufflers on my c10 but trying to see what would be better if I run duals or singles... any suggestions?

Single 3'' magnaflow in my 69. 454 automatic. Personally do not like headers or duals on a street truck. Did it when I was a kid.... got over it

Re: Dual muffler or single??

Can you post some more info on the truck and how you plan on using it. Then folks can make a more informed reply.

Re: Dual muffler or single??

I run 2 1/2” dual exhaust with headers, an H-pipe and spin tech mufflers. I absolutely love the way my truck sounds. Not too loud at idle, but at wot it has a mean bark and I don’t experience any drone in the cab.

Any difference between running 2 1/2 inch pipes versus 3”? Does it make a difference in the sound at al, performance, etc...?

Re: Dual muffler or single??

I have a 383 with headers and true dual exhaust and couldn't be happier. The louder the Better! Anything to piss off the neighborhood!

Re: Dual muffler or single??

Dual 2" is adequate on a stock small block - 2 1/2" with any kind of performance muffler should be ample. I prefer duals on a V8 - both my trucks had it before I got them.

On a BBC the single gives you way more grunt.

Re: Dual muffler or single??

On my built 396, I am using Hooker headers, a Black Widow X pipe, Flow Master 44's, and 3" pipe all the way thru that end behind the rear axle pointing down to the ground at a 45deg angle under the bed.
Very nice sound. No groan inside of cab at any RPM or speed.

Re: Dual muffler or single??

Mine has a 350 with stock manifolds. It's got really simple 2-1/2" duals exiting under the bed just ahead of the rear wheel wells. I like the sound.
They're just loud enough to help drown out the wind noise!

Re: Dual muffler or single??

When I had my '70 GMC with the 402 in it I was planning on a single 3" RV style muffler.

For my Jimmy I have dual 2 1/2" in Walker Hemi Turbo mufflers connected to Corvette cast iron manifolds. The Butt-o-Meter suggests it equals the power output of the Heddmans and 2 1/4" exhaust it replaced.

I'm planning on same exhaust setup for my 69 short step when I swap in the 427 but am running the very expensive Sanderson iron manifolds.

Engine Masters did a 2 1/2" versus 3" exhaust system and it's not worth it unless you are north of 600 whp. 2 1/2" was cheaper, easier to route, quieter and made equal power.

Re: Dual muffler or single??

My 292 runs a dual 2-1/4" with Magnaflows and an H pipe. I can barely hear it idle but it's got one hell of a getting when I mat it. I do have a drone at 55mph but I don't have a floor mat either.

Re: Dual muffler or single??

Single factory exhaust is purely a matter of economics. Two cylinder heads/two exhaust manifolds means two pipes for me. I'm 62 and will never outgrow that . It's the first thing on my list, usually.
