My new 69 K10 project

Bought for $250 and towed for $100. Previous owner claimed it has sat for 30 years, but I am not certain if this is correct. Anyhow here are the photos:

Nice start. Looks like there’s not much rust. Seems like it’s in pretty good shape for sitting that long.(aside from the motor haha)

Killer deal and a good lookin truck. There really is no telling what is inside that engine. It will be fun to find out!

I have a pretty long list of parts I will need to round up. I have a fair collection from previous 70's-80's projects. Main items that need attention are:
-no carb (I have a spare Edelbrock 1405)
-no distributor cap but it does have an HEI distributor (which I have a spare for)
-the rear dif has no guts/cover and a small rats nest inside it
-the engine has very obviously a rats nest on (and in) it
-the rear leaf springs are missing the forward bolts, but the bushings are intact
-no key for the ignition
-no key for the doors
-neither window rolls down (and by assumption up either)
-no rear brakes
-front brakes don't sound very good when spinning the wheels (rough grinding noise)
-fuel tank smells like turpentine (likely it seems I will need a sender and lines, learned that from my 79 that sat for about 6 years)
-the odd spot with rust on the body that needs to be repaired (mainly inside the cab, try and figure that out, and under the wheel wells)
-manual trans feels pretty stiff (this is the oldest truck I have owned and I have no experience with a purely mechanical clutch)
-the previous owner added some wiring for a CB in the cab and some addition lighting on the front
-no tailgate, though I do have the tailgate trim

And that's about the list I have at present. It does have a rubber pad in the bed but I haven't screwed up the courage to pull it out yet (who knows what is underneath it). Well off to work for the day I plan to keep updates on the progress on the old truck. Thanks for the welcome guys!

Looks like a good start. As far as the keys, check the door locks, one of them may have a code number stamped into it and you can get a key cut from that. (see pic below for sample of code #) If you don't find a code number, one of the door locks can be disassembled and a key made by reading the wafers. If none of the locks have been changed the key will fit the ignition. The doors and ignition were originally keyed the same on the '67-'72 trucks......

That is good to know! Here I was trying to figure out how to pull the ignition lock cylinder without destroying the switch.

If you can't find anyone in your area to cut the keys by code or make a key by reading the wafers let me know.

So I cant get the screws out of the bottom of the panel in either door, so I may have to resort to extreme measures to get the lock out (not too extreme though).

Also got the bolts back in the rear leafs so now the truck sits level.



And here is a really fun part of this trucks story. The previous owner had disassembled the rear dif to figure out what was wrong with it (somewhere around 30 years back) and in the process he lost all the guts for the dif. So he had one more vehicle on his land he needed to get rid of (a 94 Blazer), so a friend of mine bought it off of him. While my friend and I loaded the Blazer on a trailer, I noticed a flower pot with a piece of rusted metal in it. Low and behold it was the guts for the rear end.

That's too funny. Reminds me of my wasp and yellow jacket nest nightmare in all the stake pockets (took forever to find it right there in plain view) and the entire innards of the carb throat. They had take over the place. I think you got a great deal, good to see it comin along - and back up on all fours. You might come out ahead finding a less crusty rear diff parts bucket from someone parting a truck on the parts board - as long as they are close enough to you for you to go pick it up.
