Is a 2" drop shackle longer or shorter than the original?

Longer. You will need to notch out the bed supports directly above the shackle

Not always.
These trucks came with two different length leaf springs.
Some were 52”.
Others were 56”.

If you have the longer springs (8 leafs usually, 56" overall length) you will NOT have to notch the crossmember. If you have the shorter light duty springs (52"), you will have to.

i notched mine with half a chunk of exhaust pipe . few pics of the job .

kept it the least amount removed required . but with the arch it gets me the room for shackle swing i needed .
