Re: Factory Black Roof

There wasn’t an option for medium red with a black roof. But there was for hugger orange with a black roof, which I believe that truck is - RPO 565. This is referred to as a Custom Two Tone. A handful of combos were offered, like 559 & 558, two variations on medium and dark blue combos, 556 & 557, which were combos of medium and dark olive, etc. They were only available in a solid body color, different roof configuration.

Re: Factory Black Roof

My 1972 GMC C25 came from the factory as Red/Orange with black top. Shows it on the SPID. But my 1972 GMC C15 came as Medium Green and a white top... but the top was painted black at the dealership.

Re: Factory Black Roof

Here's a good thread on the Custom Two Tones. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=704629 They lasted from 70-72 and the pic below shows the combos available in 1970, not all persisted thru 72. I like the Custom Two Tone options a lot and they aren't very common (not exactly rare though either). The two tone options were Conventional (white top only), Special (69-70) with white on the top and the very bottom, and Deluxe (71-72) with white on the top and middle. Custom Two Tones were only offered in certain combos as shown in the linked thread and the ad below. I don't have an ad for 71-72 specifically though. Mine's a 557 that someone painted the top on turn it into a solid dark olive truck - a horrible transgression I will be correcting someday! Ha.

Re: Factory Black Roof

I like the white/hugger orange/white that my truck had originally (on the SPID). My FiL had it repainted, and the lower white was painted orange. If I ever get to it, that lower part will be painted white again. I like that look. That's going to take body work, because my FiL used to drive it into the back country to go fishing, and the body is a bit beat up and scraped.
