Assembly Manuals
Is there a better manual than the 1967-1972 Checy/GMC Truck Factory Assembly Instruction Manual? It is very hard to use, with no index or table of contents. I understand there is a lot of similarities between the various years, but it is not close to as easy to use as a Pontiac or Oldsmobile Assembly Manual.
Is there a specific Assembly Manual for 1972? |

Re: Assembly Manuals
No, that's the only one (and yes, it sucks). However, it is worth buying the CD version. As a pdf, it can be searched for keywords.

Re: Assembly Manuals
Here's what you do.
1) Make cup of coffee 2) Grab pen 3) Number top right of every even page 4) Get assembly manual index from the board here Some hard-working members got together and made an index for the truck assembly manual which you can search in Excel. Search the board here (assembly manual index) and you'll find it. Once you can actually LOCATE things in it, it's invaluable. If anyone has a PDF of the assembly manual I could always OCR the whole thing and make it searchable, even online. But I don't have a PDF of it, if anyone does, please let me know!

Re: Assembly Manuals
The PDF version that is available at most of the vendors is searchable.
I tried the index approach once myself, documenting every key word I could think of on each page and transferring to excel, made it to about page 150 of a million and punted. I even gave up on numbering the pages, ha. I'm glad that even the paper version is available, but after about 10 years of fishing thru its super thin pages only to find exactly what I need, but OH, no, on a suburban... I gave up and bought the CD. Wish I'd done it years ago. |

Re: Assembly Manuals
The CD I had wasn't searchable and the illustrations were black and white, not greyscale. It was worse than nothing. So it makes a big difference both in book and CD form what quality you have.
And my printed version has the parts numbers omitted, so between the two of them... suckage. On the Pontiac stuff I scanned my own 3-ring binder in so could have it exactly as I like, which is nice. Great for cross-referencing by searching part numbers between parts book and assembly manual.

Re: Assembly Manuals
Okay, so I'm not the only one . I am going to get the CD version. And Harpo231, I have a 1970 Bonneville Convertible and that Assembly Manual is great! Easy to find things and has part numbers. But that manual wasn't available until the past few years. I have owned this Pontiac since 1979. A body manual has bee available forever, but the B body only recently.
