80s bumpers and trim/impact strips ?

New member, will remove if not allowed.

Have been searching everywhere and can't seem to find an answer.
Looking for the impact strips and trim for front bumper of a 90 suburban which I believe would be the same as the 80s pick ups. Have checked LMC, Brothers trucks, Classic industries and a few others with no luck. They seem to list the impact strips for the rear bumpers but not the fronts. Every attempted google search results in listings for the 88-98 style bumper trim. Any insight from someone or help steering in the right direction would be appreciated!

Edit* Ofcourse a little more research made things more difficult, from looking at the lmc catalog makes it seem like 90-91 suburban impact strip are specific and not the same as the older pick ups

Re: 80s bumpers and trim/impact strips ?

Welcome -

A 90's Suburban bumper is different than an 80's pickup.

The 90's Suburban has the 81 and up front end refresh which change the fenders, hood and front bumper styling.

Ahh thanks for verifying, I just find it hard to believe no one makes a repop. of the front bumper trim for these trucks, can't imagine its very easy to find any that are in mint condition being 27+ years old. The search continues

Re: 80s bumpers and trim/impact strips ?

Keith. .would the strips from the early 80s not work on the 90-91 burb bumper? it may be the bumper shape behind the strip...here's a pic of my old 81 c30 bumper (top) and a 91 k20 bumper (bottom)...I didn't measure the mounting holes but just by feeling the 91 strip mounts they "appear" to be in the same location as the 81 was....my 81 had the strips on it but were destroyed so I threw them away...

I believe they would ( not 100% sure) but part of it may just be that I'm picky, i'm looking for the style thats on the bottom bumper as thats the style that came on. They're just not in great shape either. But realistically I would settle for anything that worked and looked good . Attached is the bumper i've got with the strips and bumpettes but like i said the strips are just about shot

Re: 80s bumpers and trim/impact strips ?

looks like the problem you have is you've got your bumper mounted upside down...........oh wait ..its just the pic...here ya go ...haha....99% of the people wouldn't know if it had the wrong year model bumper on it or not....if you find a good one id just go with it...my 91 bumper is in pretty decent shape...I bought this burb for parts so it wont go to the scrap pile...

Thats honestly what I was thinking, with any luck i'll find some in good shape or figure out something that will appear original anyway. Thanks for the input! I try to save as many burbs as I can from scrap too

Re: 80s bumpers and trim/impact strips ?

I believe what you’re looking for are 1988 and possibly 1989 only K5 Blazer and Suburban. I am actually for a front bumper to match my rear one with those same solid impact strip moldings. Its a fairly difficult set of bumpers to find with nice strips.

Its not the same. And those kinds of sites are clueless as to what is correct. What he wants there are no reproductions for.

Re: 80s bumpers and trim/impact strips ?

Dayton...88-99 was a completely different body style in the pickups than pre 88...the burbs kept the square body style thru 91

I guess i cant vision it, when you say front impact strips and you look up 1990 suburban with square headlights, it shows they are available

Re: 80s bumpers and trim/impact strips ?

if you look at what you posted it states "truck"... https://www.classicindustries.com/sh...bar-absorber/#
a burb and a truck in 88-91 are two different body styles with different bumpers... below pics show difference between 91 pickup and a 91 burb

Re: 80s bumpers and trim/impact strips ?

something like that yes, thats the older style which i might end up having to settle for. Apparently the 90-91 suburban trim is very specific, its similar to the 88-98 style which is on my 95 that you posted but those are thiner and the bumpers are different. Basically my search is now for a clean set or even a complete bumper with a clean set on it. the silver trim pieces on them seem to always crack and peel just like the 88-98 trucks

Re: 80s bumpers and trim/impact strips ?

yeah that chrome trim on my 91 bumper is completely gone...leaving a white looking strip behind....if I ever use it I will paint that white stuff black
at $110 for one side I think id have to do something different

Re: 80s bumpers and trim/impact strips ?

there was one on eBay for 50 bucks but same deal only one side and even that is too much, my fall back is probably to pull that white piece out and try painting it some type of silver if possible or just black depending how it goes

who would've thought getting bumper trim would be such a challenge

Exactly! thats the one, seems to be the chrome strip doesn't hold up to age though, all I've seen are always peeled and cracked. Had been hoping there would be an affordable option out there but it seems that isn't the case
