Are my door hinges bent? 59 apache
I've had problems with my door in the trail fittings since i've replaced the rust in it. The bottom hing mount in the door was broke when i bought it so the door has been abused, hitting the fender etc. I took it off again and noticed the hinges where curved out the same direction that my door wants to stick out. Also i have installed new pins and bushings in the hinge.

looking at the pics I would say yes, unless the pics are distorted somehow. mine were straight where they bolt to the door. you got nuthin to lose from heating them up and getting that part straight.

Re: Are my door hinges bent? 59 apache
Just remember, it takes a LOT to bend a hinge, the door is going to bend WAY before that hinge bends. So what is off, I can't tell you. But I would be looking at the pin in the hinge way before it being bent. And I would be looking at where that hinge bolts being bent before anything!

Re: Are my door hinges bent? 59 apache
great point martinsr, but it does look like the "bolt on" part of the hinge is not flat/straight. maybe a shadow thing or a distortion on the pic thing?
the lower hinge mount inside the door is a usual rusted out area on these trucks. may be a good place to check as well. |

I'd bet the A pillar is "tweaked" after ruling out pins and bushings. No way the hinges are bent unless there was a collision of gigantic proportions!

I just looked at a set on my workbench, and they are flat on the side that mounts to the door.

Re: Are my door hinges bent? 59 apache
door hitting fender is typical indication of bad front cab mounts causing the front of the cab to sag down
if you ever see pliers bent front door edge (cringe) it is for this reason motor oil soaked after 60 years tends to soften rubber rusted lower fender mount will also cause the fender bottom to ''relax'' another cause for front cab sag is removal of the trans x-member to install an automatic trans that trans x-member also supports the front cab supports

Re: Are my door hinges bent? 59 apache
try a block of wood and a floor jack under the front cab mount, jack up a little to see if the door clearance improves
ogre has never tried this method, just a suggestion for checking

Re: Are my door hinges bent? 59 apache
Thanks for all the replies they are definitely curved out not straight. I was thinking they should be, but not sure, so I asked. I will work on that and come back with my results.

Re: Are my door hinges bent? 59 apache
I think those hinges have a hole at the very back that may not be used as they were in the passenger car. Moving the very back of that hinge is very powerful. If you need to move the front of the door in and out, that is the magic point!
