Saving Identification Plate on 1960 C10
I would like to have the entire cab on my '60 C10 dipped and stripped. Unfortunately, that would remove the paint and text on the identification plate on the drivers side kick panel that has the weight, horse power, paint code information. That plate is riveted on. Can I drill out the rivets and replace it after stripping and painting? Are the rivets unique or special in any way? Comments? Thoughts? Ideas?

There is a recent discussion here about this issue. An EBay seller does supply replacement rivets.

Do they look unique?

Re: Saving Identification Plate on 1960 C10
I drilled mine out before dipping and I just keep it in the glove box. My kick panels are carpeted. Should be no big deal to re-attach with a pop rivet or screws.

Re: Saving Identification Plate on 1960 C10
Keep in mind that the 1960 plate had the actual VIN stamped on it, and is critical for legality. Later models, beginning in 1962 or thereabouts, the plate had only specifications stamped on it, and the VIN plate was on the A or B pillar.

Re: Saving Identification Plate on 1960 C10
Sorry, I was thinking of GMC's which do have the VIN stamped on the kick panel specification plate in 1960-61. Chevies are different.
