2-groove, 80amp Alternator for '69 C10 - can't find replacement

Hi all -

My alternator needs to be replaced, but I can't seem to find a matching one for sale anywhere. I have a 2 groove pulley and it says it's an 80amp Alt. Delco Remy PN: 1100810.

Anyone know if this is NOT the OEM alternator for this pickup? Looks like most of the internet resources suggest a 1-groove 63amp alternator. Anyone know the OEM amperage of these alternators?

Do I need to swap pulleys from the old to the new and use a lower rated alternator?

Any help would be appreciated.

Delco 10SI alternators over the years have appeared on GM automobiles, farm tractors, inboard boat engines, etc.. And in configurations from 36 amps to over 100 amps, all in the same housing configuration.. By simply clocking the housing halves, the alternator will fit numerous applications.. Take your old alternator to a brick and mortar store, show 'em what you got.. They'll fix you up with what you need..

>>and it says it's an 80amp Alt.<<

Is the "80 Amp" stamped on and does the stamping look different than the other stamping?

I don't know if Quick Start sold an 80 Amp Alternator, but they have been selling a 80 Amp kit for years. The 6th item down, part# HO7000 is for making an 80 Amp alternator.

https://alternatorparts.com/10dn-alt...-and-kits.html

If the 63 Amp you found is at a flaps, they should be able to change the pulley for you. The 63 Amp should be fine unless you have a lot of accessories. My 292 has a 37 Amp and keeps the battery charged with AC, 2 fans, HEI, trailer brake, and basic CD stereo.

PowerMaster would be the only brand that comes to mind that sells those in the higher amperages. I would love to know if the stock regulator can handle those higher amps.

Just put your twin pulleys on any new alternator and be done with it...Twin pulley's is overkill, what do you got going on under that hood?

Used on inline six with Power Steering. Factory setup, in case you were wondering.

Re: 2-groove, 80amp Alternator for '69 C10 - can't find replacement

Hey, thanks for all the replies!

Yeah, I haven't ever seen a dual groove setup before. Makes sense for redundancy, I guess. This truck was used on a farm until 1994. The two groove setup looks stock, but most people I've shown have said it was rare. I have the original build sheet for the truck, so I'll have to dig it out and see if there is mention to some special setup.

I did end up going to Napa and bought one that they had that showed a cross-over match with the Delco Remy PN: 1100810. I changed the pulley's over and the rest of the alignment was correct.

I didn't have time to mess with conversion to internal regulation or single wire systems though, since I had to have it running for a trip to the state patrol for a VIN inspection (still chasing down a lost title).

Only complaint I had is the two wire connector terminal (to the external voltage regulator) did not have part that allows the connector to "click" into the terminal. It's just being held in by a little friction. I hope it will hold for now.

I kept the original alternator I have (rather than giving it back for the core price) so I can rebuild it later.

Not sure I would ever need 80amps though...I don't have anything going on under this hood. It's all stock and no power steering (or power anything for that matter!).

Thanks for all your help!!

I also have a 1 wire 100 amp that works really well. I also use a 2 groove pulley on it I had a terrible time getting on. I use both grooves but I mainly needed that pulley for the 1/4" space between the inner groove and the alternator fan, I'm running a 292.
