AFR Haeds...Got a ?
Well...I have already decided to get my heads from teh AFR Company for sure. My question is.....Wat CC head should I get. 195cc or 210cc? Wat the difference? Should I go bigger. i want a good high compression ratio. This 383 will be a Strip and a lil street Motor. So...Give me the good stuff Wats yall opinions on the heads. Lay it on me guys. Thx!

To answer which is best for you depends on your cam specs/type, intended rpm range, & whether it's natural or forced induction.
The 210's would be 'peaky' on a 383. They would flow like a MFkr but only @ higher rpm's. If the motor makes alot of torque down low you might be able to give up some bottom end to help limit the tires from spinning out of the hole, but too much will just slow you down. With most trucks, the issue is weight.... or excess weight to be exact. To get that big mass moving requires torque. A nice flat torque curve will get you moving & since AFR's flow so well you should still be able to make good top end HP. Everything I've researched (I read alot) suggests if compression is below 10:1 & cam lift specs are .550 or below then the 190-195's are the way to go on a 383. The AFR 180's would help bottom end torque even more w/prob just a small sacrifice of top end HP. If you can make 20ft/lbs more torque throughout the total rpm range @ the cost of 10HP on the top end..... your faster stoplight to stoplight. I've got AFR 190's w/68cc chambers that I intend to put on top of a 406.

Well...I weight about 3800.....Planing on weight way less than that when we drag it. The lift on the cam is above .600 haha. So its a big ass cam. I just want the best heads for the 383. Everyone has told me that 195cc head they have are the best way to go.

The bigger the port, the more air it will flow @ higher rpm's & the less velocity it has @ low rpm's.
With +.600 lift.... go w/the full CNC competition heads they offer.

You must have a funky block...
Whats the max lift on smallblocks anyhow? Its gotta be up there with you. I thought the LS1 blocks were wierd because of the cam bearing size being bigger to accept higher lift cams.

Its just a Small Block 2 Bolt. It worked in my friends SBC so it'll work in mine. I cant wait to get it. I kno I weight alot But I am workin on it HAHA :P
