Correct plugs for 041 heads with hei
So new truck to me and has 041 heads, 1970 350 engine. Currently has AC R44 taper seat plugs in it. Pretty sure this head needs a gasketed plug. What will work with the HEI ignition and fit this head. I know you guys are experts on this but new to me. TIA Jim

Re: Correct plugs for 041 heads with hei
A tapered seat plug would likely be a R44T or R44TS.... the "T" is for tapered seat. Not trying to be a Beavis, here, just help.
They no longer make any gasket R44 plugs, it's either R43 or R45. The R43 is a cooler plug than a R45, and does NOT have the extended tip. My engine builder never recommended extended tip plugs. I still trust his thinking, many will disagree... If the engine is in good condition and runs well, I'd use R43 plugs. If it's a little lacking power wise, not in best condition, I'd go R45. THe extended version of these 2 plugs has an "S" at end, R43S, R45S, if that's what you want... |

Re: Correct plugs for 041 heads with hei
Guess I need to correct my original post. They are r44T plugs. The engine runs well with these plugs but don't think these heads should have a tapered plug. Pulled one to see what they are as headers are going on Monday and a good time for new plugs. Thanks for recommendations.
