NP203 Front Shaft CV Joint
I did a search and haven't found anything. In the owners manual (1978) it talks about servicing the CV joint of the front shaft or the full-time 4WD setup. It says it requires a special tool, but doesn't give a part number or say what lubricant to use. Who out there has this info? I don't want to convert to manual hubs and modify the NP203. Any info is appreciated.

Re: NP203 Front Shaft CV Joint
I just grease them with the grease gun . When they fail I take it to a driveshaft shop to replace it. I have to drop the driveshaft to grease it properly. That only gets done every few years.

Re: NP203 Front Shaft CV Joint
Those CV joints use "Inverted" Grease Fittings & you need a Needle Type Grease Injector, not the "Hypodermic" style. Also, way up in the middle they have a stud & needle bearing that you cant lube any other way than take it apart, which can be a real adventure.
Most folks run them till they fail & then go have a new tube installed in the shaft omitting the CV Joint, which won't be missed. Is your 203 still Full Time or do you have a Part Time kit installed? But back to your vibration if your 203 is still part time you can put the selector lever in "Hi Lock", remove the front drive shaft & drive it to see if your vibration changes. If it has a part time kit be sure your locking hubs are functioning properly & not dragging. |
