1970 cst10
This is my 1970 CST10 daily driver truck in Norway. 454 cid / 4L80E and compushift.
Did these originally come with 454cid? My has CST10 8/454 logo on front fenders. The seller said that this was specially ordered with this engine and th400 trans. Waiting for summer to come and new 18 "wheels should be mounted |

No, the 454 was never offered in our trucks. I think those new wheels will look great!

The 454 was not offered in these trucks. Your glove box SPID should tell you what options it has. Any more pics? Nice looking truck!

Re: 1970 cst10
If your VIN starts "CE" then you had a V8 originally.
If there's nothing on the SPID, it would have come with a 307 (because that is the base/standard V8). If originally a V8 (i.e. an E in the 2nd place on your VIN) and it wasn't a 307, your SPID will call out either 350 sbc or 396 bbc (because those are the optional V8s). (the 396 became a 402 (with (edit) 400 badges...) in 71. The 454 engine badges are aftermarket, you'd either have nothing (if a V8 and 307), 350, or 396 on the badge (originally). Very nice truck! More pics when you get a chance! Welcome to the forum. Whereabouts in Norway are you? EDIT - thanks Steeveedee - 400 badges did pop in at some point in 70, thank you. Re: 1970 cst10
SPID is unfortunately gone after restoration in the usa in 1997. Can I find any info on the VIN number? the car had one owner in the usa and he managed to restore it before he unfortunately died. The story says that he specially ordered this with 454, th400, 12 bolt, leafsprings, bucket seats, console +++ but without SPID is it hard to prove this? The marks on front fenders look quite original and on these it stands 8/454.

Re: 1970 cst10
The emblems are pretty much the same size, so could be added on. My '70 truck came with a 402 cu in engine, and has "400" emblems on the fenders. As was mentioned, no 454 in trucks in '70.
Nice looking truck!

Re: 1970 cst10
Thanks for that data point Steeveedee - the 70 396 vs 402 engine vs badging vs SPID is always an interesting discussion. I indeed mis-spoke, the 402 was the engine in 70 (not 396) but some were still badged as 396s until 400 badges took over on the line - but good point, 402 was the optional big block in 70, thanks for mentioning.

The car is located at Røros / Trondheim. In the middle of Norway.
Original with or without 454, it's a well-kept car that's nice to drive |

Re: 1970 cst10
Cool truck!
But the factory didn't offer the 454 until the 1973 model year. A lot of guys out there have performed after market surgery on their truck and then try and say that it has a very rare option. Another classic is the fabled Corvette engine option. |

Re: 1970 cst10
Also wondering if I should switch to a heavy duty drive shaft carrier bearing? my 454 (461) has 450hk and 517ft-lb (dyno). I'm afraid the original carrier does not tolerate so much ft-lb with 28 / 12.5x15 slicks on the track?

Re: 1970 cst10
I use the original style carrier bearing for the drive shaft. I also have a 454 bored 0.040” over (462CI) with roughly the same Dyno numbers (455HP/510TQ).
Never had an issue yet, and I believe in smoky burnouts. It’s not miles per tire but the smiles per tire that counts. Been my motto for over 35 years. Lol
