To tint or not tint windows

I have a set of clear and a set of the green tinted windows. Im thinking of going with the green tinted windows. Is there a general thought on going with tinted windows on these trucks? I dont see very many with tinted windows and from pocs hard to tell if green tinted windows.

Your signature says you are in Arizona, I would think you would want AC and Tint during the warmer months. I do plan on applying window tint but my 69 is far from factory.

Re: To tint or not tint windows

I go by what I want, not what others want. I love Soft Ray glass and that's what I want. So if you want what I want you'll want tinted

* Correction:

I want you to want clear so I can buy your tinted

Re: To tint or not tint windows

I'm going to vote clear as I think that is more vintage. Recently had windscreen replaced in my DD due to big crack. That process brought me to the realization that modern glass by default has the slight green tint. Never noticed this before. Go clear!

Re: To tint or not tint windows

this is so funny. my wife asked me this morning what was on the list for the pickup today. i said, "i hope the guy calls that is tinting my glass. i'm anxious to see it". she was confused. she says, "i didn't picture it with tinted windows". hahaha i said, "did you picture it with a bluetooth radio and a 10' sub with an amp in it either"? hahaha

i love what all of you guys are doing to your rides. i agree to go with what YOU like.

Re: To tint or not tint windows

Yea I agree do what you want. Just seems like not many people tint windows on classics. Living in az is almost a must do to vehicles. But just a little torn looking at the soft ray green tinted glass looks pretty retro cool!

Re: To tint or not tint windows

It's not that many people didn't tint their windows, it was that this option was normally tied to AC and most people didn't order AC in these old trucks! If I was in AZ and wasn't doing a numbers-matching truck I'd certainly look into a factory level of tint (ie: limo black would look weird).

If you have factory air like mine, you get it.

In passenger cars, like my Dad's 69 Laurentian, you also got it with AC but you could order it as a standalone option either for just the front windshield or all the way around. Not sure if you could order the green glass without AC in a truck... anyone know?

Re: To tint or not tint windows

it’s your truck so do what you want. I’m planning on tinting my windows. Houston gets too hot and humid not to have tint and a/c. I want to be comfortable when I’m cruising.

Re: To tint or not tint windows

Mine are clear but if I had a set of factory tinted glass I would use it, especially out there. It was a rather rare option in Ohio back then unless you also had A/C which was also rare.

My son lives in Queen Creek. Nice place to live.

Re: To tint or not tint windows

I think the discussion has taken two directions. Am assuming OP is asking whether to install a set of factory green tint windows or factory clear - not whether to tint (via a trip to the tint shop).

If you have factory tinted windows available and are in the phase of a build where you can choose - I’d go with tint.
I wouldn’t go to the trouble to remove factory non-tinted if already installed personally.
Aftermarket tint is just personal preference. I prefer not, but a mild aftermarket tint doesn’t look bad. Would never aftermarket tint a high-level resto, again, personally - just my opinion.

Re: To tint or not tint windows

Yes 2 issues. I dont see a lot of aftermarket grey tinted windows. Seems like a lot of guys stay with clear glass. But since in AZ I may consider grey tinted windows. However I have the stock green tinted original glass that looks cool and trying to decide which way to go. Green or grey...

Actually, green tint is absolutely vintage...this vintage. The cool cars of the muscle car era all have Soft Ray. Green tint went out a good while back. It's been grey for a long time. Grapefruit with Soft Ray is just too sexy, especially with Parchment interior.
