The RPM range and the diesel tachs are mechanical ran by a cable driven somewhere off the engine. They were ran off the supercharger on the Detroits if I remember correctly.

Jay it looks like your tach was likely hooked to a 6V53 Detroit Diesel. Glens tach may have been mated to a Toroflow and the tach was the best part of that scenario.

Ahhh ok. Any modern day diesel engines redline at 2800?

Yeah. There's two different styles. Or different red lines. Was happy to find either. 6bt/Allison/c50 bound

1994-1998 12v cummins stock do. They start defueling at 2600 on most.

There was just a C50 with a Toroflow on ebay about a month ago. A member shared the link with me but unfortunately the truck already sold. It had the tach cluster in it and the truck was in Iowa. Man, I wanted that cluster.

Just a question. Would that Tachometer run off a tach drive corvette distributer?

It sure would Mr. You would have to get the cable custom made to get correct length.

To further disturb that idea, you could have that tach re-calibrated to work as a 5K or even an 8K. The expense would be in the lens and tin work to make them reflect the new limit.

This is kind of off-topic but a buddy of mine has a four grand electronic tach I don’t have a picture of the lense but I’ve seen it in person. Here’s a picture of the tach. Any info on this? You can barely read on the back where it says product sample.

The tach pictured is an electric 5k tach. (count the hash marks) If it is the same one that was for sale awhile back, it is a 6 or 8 cyl tach with a diesel tach lens in the bezel.
