ECM and 4wd to 2wd swap
I'm looking for an entire donor vehicle (nominally LM7/4L60e) for my 65 C10.
There are many more 4x4 vehicles out there and in my price range are higher mileage that probably need a trans rebuild anyway. I've read about trying to get compatible engines and transmissions, but why can't I just buy a 4x4 donor vehicle and trade the 4wd 4L60 in for a rebuilt 2wd version? Does this present compatibility issues that can or cannot be fixed with the ECM reflash? Ultimately this is the same question I guess for just buying a standalone engine and trying to find the correct transmission to mate up. I'm not interested in converting the 4x4 transmission to 2wd. |

Re: ECM and 4wd to 2wd swap
Any competent tuner can tune a 4wd computer to run a 2wd trans. This becomes alot more complicated but still possible if one trans is a 4l80 and the other a 4l60 though.

Re: ECM and 4wd to 2wd swap
If your just swapping a 4wd 4l60e for a 2wd 4l60e from the same year range, its just a a matter of changing the ECM settings.

Re: ECM and 4wd to 2wd swap
Thank you.
Talking to a guy with a 2004 2wd 4.8/4L60 with 250k miles. Not ideal but really cheap for the whole truck. |
