Stovebolt serial number

Hi everyone,

I just brought a what I believe is a 1941 Chevy big bolt. This is a RHD truck brought in New Zealand. The truck is a 2 1/2 tin that I believe has been up rated to 3T

What I was hoping is someone might be able to help me with the engine serial number. I’ve had a search on the site but haven’t been able to retrieve anything as yet.

This is the number behind the distributor tr3680293

Any help would be great,

Thank you in advance Craig

Re: Stovebolt serial number

It will be easier if you can give the casting # from the block, or lift the valve cover and give the casting # on the head .

Re: Stovebolt serial number

OK, so that is for a 1937 216 , so the truck must have had a repower at some stage . The early 216 has dome top pistons and the later ones (post 1941) has flat top pistons , so the previous owner has not changed just the head , but the whole engine .No help at all really , LOL .

Got a pic of the dash ?

Re: Stovebolt serial number

Hi

Sorry for the late reply. Thanks for searching out the information on the engine for me.

I had a friend give me a hand to get it running yesterday, seems to run really well. I guess if you needed a motor when this old truck was in its prime, you would stick in whatever you could get your hands on.

I have attached a photo of the dash, also something else a little different about this truck is the way the head lights are mounted. If anyone has any insight as to why this one might have the headlights mounted without the teardrop shape behind them like the rest of the 41-46 chev trucks i would be interested to hear.

Cheers Craig

Re: Stovebolt serial number

Thanks for the update , the dash is pre or post military use , so 41 - 42 or 46.
Wow on the really ugly headlights , LOL looks like whatever was available post war . Shouldn't be toooo hard to get some reasonable tear drop shape per original style , I'm pretty sure I saw some at the Ashburton swap meet , last weekend .
Those park lights are definitely military use item .
Keep hunting , the trucks gonna be great
